Cube
Sup, guys. I just owned a reconditioned Legacy Wagon GT2.0 for the past 14 to 15 days.. Suddenly, my engine started to vibrate roughly and at first I thought it was the spark plugs. Had that changed but still the same problem. Checked the ignition coils, but it still had the same problem. Now the car is still at the shop and the mechanics will have the fuel system checked tomorrow. Hopefully, it won't be that serious. Any other possible reasons for the rough idling?
AkumaMax
Well sounds like they are doing it right. First three things to check on a car that is running rough is check AIR/Spark/Fuel. Could be a clogged injector. Is there any ticking at all?
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted July 31, 2012 I Donated Share Posted July 31, 2012 Sounds like you have some kind of misfire. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Cube
AkumaMax, yes there were ticking sounds for a brief moment during start up and on some occasion during idling. The RPM would drop a bit lower than normal after giving it a bit of gas and also. Brief ticking sound could be heard.
AkumaMax
I would have a compression check done just to be sure there is nothing serious wrong.
HipsterDoofus
Stop calling it a Scooby. Then check in on us after a week and see how the problem fixed itself
StoplightAssassin
This is a JDM or EDM 2.0GT turbo? It's most likely a simple vacuum leak. Subaru engines all tick to some degree.
Cube
AkumaMax, The mechanic found that there is an air leak in one of the intake pipes. it seems that the surface was uneven causing the air leak as seen below: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/100/imag0665v.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/imag0666j.jpg/ So this afternoon the mechanic grind it down to make it as flat as possible so to avoid further leaks. Hopefully it will solve the rough idling problem. StoplightAssassin, To be honest with you, im quite 'alien' when it comes to Subarus. I find it hard to locate aftermarket parts for my car. But what i can tell you is that it is a 2.0GT and also it could be a Spec B. Production year could be between 2003 to 2005. I derived to this conclusion due to the fact that it has an electronic shifter on the steering wheels and 18 inch rims as standard. Also it has an EJ20X engine. unfortunately the workshop where im sending my car couldn't even identify the car and also i found out yesterday that Fujitsubo needed to confirm which model it is after various information has been sent to them. HipsterDoofus, thanks for the warm welcome.

StoplightAssassin
I can't tell from that pic, but it looks like that piece is fine. The gasket is still in good condition. I know it bolts to the turbo and gets very hot, but I doubt it would warp. What country did you purchase the car in? you can get a ton of aftermarket parts on japanparts.com
Cube
Yup. Actually, the gasket side is a bit curved and it fits unevenly on the turbo which caused the leak. Hopefully sanding the pipe down solves the problem. Fortunately all the intercooler hoses is still in good condition. I'm from Brunei. I got it off from a friend about 2 weeks ago who used it for roughly about 2 years. It was docked for a few months for which I don't know the reason for. The main origin of the reconditioned car could be from Singapore which they might get it off from Japan since the deck includes a Mini Disc player. Thanks for site. I will definitely check it out. StoplightAssassin
JDM markets are the only markets to get the Mini Disc as far as I know.

StoplightAssassin
USDM VIN decoding doesn't apply to JDM vehicles according to your tag and the pictures, you have a 2.0 Spec B wagon. congrats!
Cube
thanks, StoplightAssassin! So how do I know which applied model it is?
Thorr
what is this 'applied model' you speak of?
StoplightAssassin
you can decode a JDM frame ID # in the same manner like a USDM or EDM VIN. most of it is in Russian, but you should be able to figure it out. http://www.carrol.ru/_pages/subaru/index.php?st=11&l=bWFya2V0PT11c2E= Where it says 20GTB, that's how you know it's a Spec B Also, that's a JDM Spec B bumper
Dujo
^ Dammit, I thought that might be a problem, but I didn't see anything about location in my quick scan of the page. Sorry for the misinformation, OP and thanks for the correction Assassin.
Cube
what is this 'applied model' you speak of? If you see at japanparts.com link:http://japanparts.com/db/maker.php?maker=Subaru the site suggest 2 types of Legacy with the same chassis type (in my case it's BP5) and also the site suggest to make sure the applied model in which there is a variation from A to F. How do I know which one my legacy is?
StoplightAssassin
applied = revision. in JDM markets there were many different revisions for each model, usually denoting suspension changes according to your tag, the applied model is BP5A5GV I found this: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/jdm-spec-b-rev-b-impressions-3801.html send a pm to the OP of that thread, apexjapan. he can help you way more with figuring your car out and parts for it than I can. Cube
Thanks for the link. I found out in one of the posts that a member has a similar applied model.
Cube
So I got my car back from the shop the other day. I was still disappointed due to the fact that the engine still idles roughly. Better than before but still idles abit roughly. They tried tuning the timing after they he found out it was off. But the mechanic insisted that it'll go away after awhile. But still I have an uneasy feeling about it. Later that evening I found out it had a misfire as well. *sigh*. I'm trying to read up other possible issues that might contribute to the problem in this thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/cylinder-misfires-bad-injectors-please-post-here-85099p6.html?highlight=Misfire+knocking What a bad first experience on a Subaru...
