Ugh. Nasty. Good job getting that apart!
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Geez nice job on pulling the clutch. I'll keep you in mind if/when mine needs replacing. Speaking of which, I'd highly recommend what I run (in my sig.. Dozens of dragstrip runs and 29k miles at 390wtq and holding strong.)...I'm assuming you won't be using the same clutch again.. how many miles were on it?

Funny you should mention that. I was thinking if I want to abuse it at times, but still have good reliability that ACT is the way to go. I just hated the decel spring noise from the friction disc in a different car I had. Definitely going to ditch the ACT street lite flywheel and get the WRX alternative instead as well.

The Southbend had only 20-30k at the most, I drove it hard once in awhile, but it wasn't really abused for what a 400 ft. Lb. clutch should handle.

I've abused a few clutches in the 24 years I've been driving, but I've never seen a friction disc melted to the flywheel...

Good to see you got it all apart. I've seen a few good ones in my day, the best yet being a EF civic with an LS swap and a buddy blowing every bit of the friction disk off the clutch and leaving just the metal insert for the friction surface left...melted to the flywheel is sweet though

No one to blame but me for this by the looks of these pics... the friction disc was melted to the flywheel... the flywheel side of the friction disc turned a blue color from apparent heat...

My one run down the track felt like the car was really struggling, but the logs looked ok, apparently the clutch was slipping terribly... Intake temps were around 160deg as I rolled down to the start, outside temp was 95deg. This looks to come fully from slipping though...

The clutch is a SouthBend stage 3 organic, supposedly intended for daily use up to 400 ft. lbs.

I couldn't find my Torx Plus 50, so I went and bought one. It then broke, so the flywheel is still on until I find another one.

Only 4 springs, most clutches I've seen have 6 like my Spec 2 I just installed.

Here's my Spec 2+ that I removed, 80,000+ miles.

I'm going with an ACT.

Southbend let me know they'll refurbish it for free. It would be a great clutch for road racing or an auto-xer, it holds very solid under motion, it just doesn't like being slipped really hard from a dig. I'd make anyone an outstanding deal on what should pretty much be a new clutch when they're done. :)

It's a $650 clutch normally.

Well, Southbend has offered to refurb the clutch for free... the ACT Streetlite flywheel can be resurfaced... I'm going to sell the combo cheap (after clutch is refurbed), if you know anyone interested point them to this thread.

My Tranny has the decel rattle too in higher gears.

It's something you learn to live with. Put it in neutral and coast when you can. I do that on the back roads.

Ugh, the drivetrain noise is horrid with the ACT... I knew this from previous experiences with ACT, but I forgot just how bad it is... I swear something is wrong with my car at times, still better than being welded to the flywheel though...

I'm having the same disengagement problem. What things should I try to adjust before pulling the tranny back out. Also, why do you need to keep the engine level? And also, what is the proper way to take the hub off the axle? I just banged a pickle fork into it. Do I need an alignment now?
