Front lower control arm bushing question.

Not much noise over oem, especially here in Tristate.

It may be your rotors that are the issue, we can check before jumping into the LCA bushings.

Pricing runs 380 installed for the whiteline rear and inner bushings for the front lower control arms.

Figure on another 100 for an alignment when it's all done as well.

Mike, do you think it it OK to reuse the LCA mounting bolts and nuts? The service manual says to replace them (3 bolts and 2 nuts for each LCA).

These aren't stretch bolts like in an engine. We generally reuse them unless they are severely buggered up. We've seen a few where the oem bushing came apart so badly it damaged the bolt.

Thanks!

I realize the timing sucks lol. ACT doesn't list them in stock, everywhere else is saying after the first of the year for new inventory.

I just want my car back lol I haven't driven it in over a month.

I'm still in the looking phase for coils right now. :)

Why not go with a WRX 06+/LGT 07+ flywheel instead of an ACT one? That's what I'm running on my 05 LGT Wagon with the ACT HDSS clutch kit.

All, quick follow-up, if I may (yes I searched, no I didn't see an answer readily available). I had bad tire wear and had the same problem: my LCAs were shot & so were my shocks/struts after 75k miles on the USDM originals. I had the shocks done and the front end aligned the same time I got the white-lines installed. 1 Front end alignment later and I was done.

OK, so 6k miles later of cross-country drive from CA to VA (the long way), I decide to do the brakes and rotate tires. Holy schomly! Major tire wear on the inside right front. So I get another alignment and it was way, way out. Good thing I caught it, but after 6k easy highway miles it wore the hell out of the poor tire.

Long story short, does an LCA/shock/strut replacement tend to "settle" after time and wear-in? Is there any good explanation for a major alignment shift after 6K miles with no major bumps, potholes, or curbs to throw it off? Is this typical? I'm worried I'll have to get it realigned many times and often until I finally trust that it'll stay in alignment.

The car is a 2005 and until the shocks only had 1 other alignment in the 7 years I've owned it.

BTW -- I notice with the new LCA's that the handling is nearly the same to slightly better, but the noise is not noticeably louder. I'd say it feels mostly the same as before. Of course with new shocks at the same time it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. I went White Line because I saw how badly the subie parts broke and wanted something that would hopefully last the rest of the life of the car.

Sounds more like the toe was set to factory specs which has a lot of latitude + and - and which does cause tire wear (inside or out depending on + or - toe).

I have had zero issues with a performance alignment (after doing the AVO offset LCA bushings) and specified 0 degrees toe front and rear. No more inner or outer tire wear.

Since you're in San Diego, I recommend East County Alignment in El Cajon. They always did my alignments for me and I appreciated the care and diligence they put into my alignments on all my Subes. It's been 3 and a half years since I was last there (moved to SoCar), but I can't imagine that anything about their professionalism or get-it-right attitude has changed. And they're good resources if you need other stuff done to your suspension as well. GL with yours.

I did use the zero offset bushings and they did set the alignment to spec. I dunno why it would go out so bad in 6k miles. Do they have a "settling in" period?

Spec is +/- 1* (.8) so 6K with that much variance, will give you tire wear IME. FWIW, mine are the 5* positive offset LCA bushes.

I would hazard to guess that the alignment was not 100% correct when they set it. How well do you trust this shop who did the alignment? There are a lot of ways to "get the computer to show it's aligned" when in fact it isn't or can't be aligned properly.

We've installed and aligned a bunch of cars with the zero and offset bushings without any adverse effects in long term tire wear.

I realize the Whiteline KCA334 set allows you to adjust the caster, however i'm not to interested in messing with my caster. Has anyone used the Whiteline W53353 set over the KCA334's? It looks like the W53353's are a just a direct polyurethane replacement over OEM's but i'm not sure since no one has mentioned them so far. Would the KCA334's be the better choice over the W53353's (if i just left the caster at 0) or would the W53353's be just fine for me?

Thoughts?

I am in the same boat but Pucks question didn't get answered well.

I figured the W53353 were just stock replacements. Are they or is it a poly?

I do track the car often and hard so I figured id try the KCA334's. or will these be really harsh? (there is also the "Motorsport" which I figure are rocks)

I only drive 5k on the street a year so not to concerned with NVH as its a LGT after all, it came stock with all that plus R (rattles).

APZ I shot you a PM the other day. any chance on a quote?

thanks

Hey,

Quick question, if I bring both of my LCA's by your shop, how much would it be to replace both bushings with the whiteline ones that are the closest match to OEM feel? I have no problem pulling them off, I just don't feel like pressing them out.

Shoot us an email to sales@azpinstalls.com and we can get you a price. Figure on about 1 hour of labor, maybe less.
