Headers pre purchase.

Recommended Posts

I have an 08' 2.5i and I'm trying to find some UEL headers that don't break the bank. Are they universal between any model of car with the 2.5, say like these http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-05-Subaru-Impreza-2-5RS-Exhaust-Header-UEL-2-5-RS-/140735071213?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c476c3ed&vxp=mtr#ht_3848wt_1010? or do I need to get something strictly for the 08 Legacy?

If you don't know what your looking for, you should contact one of the vendors that post on this forum alot. Like Mike at http://www.AZPinstalls.com or m sprank.

Buy from them and that way you can get it right the first time.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Top Speed Pro is what they're called I guess. I'm not finding any info, I was just hoping someone has done something like this before. Definitely be way cheaper than the only option I know works for sure.

Of course it's cheaper, it's a non-catted, "universal" fit header that looks kinda stainless but is likely just coated. It'll bolt up to the exhaust ports, but that's about it for fitment.

Your 08 exhaust manifold has a cat in it, with two o2 sensors before and after the cat. The location of the exit is different, and the exit flange is different. By the time you pay all the costs to get that to fit your current system, and then try and deal with CEL's and whatnot, you'll most likely end up at the same or more cost than the systems that are made to actually fit.

You have a 2.5i. Why do you want headers?

We have seen folks who's headers have rusted out go to an aftermarket header setup because it is a 1 piece setup from the factory and when it rusts out the part is about 700 for the part alone.

But the header has the cat integrated. So that should fall under the 8/80k emissions control device warranty.

I know a lot of 08 cars with more than 80k miles on them.

True. My 09 does have 63k on it already.

Still, it seems a bit silly to spend $550 for a header that has no performance gain. Especially since that price will get you a new OEM header (http://www.subarupartswebsite.com/OEMParts/subaru-153/4/44620AB24A.html)

Doubly stupid if your stock pipe hasn't somehow rusted through.

You will get a different/louder tone, and free up some hp and throttle response. Worth the $ in my opinion? No. However, after being in this business and being in the Subaru community since 1999, you learn people will do what they want to do.

My 2.5i has Equal length headers which = no boxer rumble. I want the UEL's strictly for that reason, not for hp increases. Might as well enjoy boxer rumble even if it's a slow poke car. My insurance won't cover me for anything after I got an exhibition ticket during my evo era haha.
