MissBri
I was told by the service manager at my Subaru dealership that non-Subaru oil filters leaked. Is this true or is he just trying to make sure that I pay them $60 for my oil change instead of having my mechanic brother do it at oil and filter cost? bluesubie
Any oil filter can leak. One that's too tight, one that's not tight enough, or one that is defective. Some folks order a case of 6 or 12 Subaru filters from forum vendors or other on-line dealers and some people only run aftermarket filters even while under warranty. -Dennis
bluesuby
There was a thread a couple years ago which said Subaru was changing the supplier and the new filters were garbage. Maybe, maybe not. I used all my OEM filters and started using Mobil 1 filters which I was getting as a "package" with 5 quarts of Mobil 1 oil. No problems at all. 09DgmLGT
Tell the service manager goodbye and have your brother do it. IMO I'd steer clear of his "help" if it's not warantee work; which some dealers still don't want to honor. I've done all my own oil changes and only used Purolator Pureone filters and Rotella 5w40 synthetic for 52,xxx miles haven't used an ounce of oil and haven't had any sort of non-subaru filter leakage. lee07
Who pays $60 for an oil change? $25 for 5 quart oil, $9 oil filter, labor free(at least for me) Total cost, $34 +/- NO you don't need to only use an Subaru filter any brand/color/etc will work even Fram. Just make sure it fits and is for your car.

I do use EP because it's only a couple bucks more (for 5 quarts). Let the chemical engineers and bs artists throw the next stone.
AZP Installs
Only caution is make sure to save your reciepts for the oil and filters. Subaru will need to see them in the even of warranty work related to the motor. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
