first oil change on legacy gt help

Recommended Posts

if you dont have service history on the car, i think its worthwhile to check it out. if you find excessive sludge id start worrying about the banjo bolt and turbo oil feed lines. You can potentially save yourself from blowing your turbo and engine if you catch it in time.

Ok i need help....i got a p011 code and a p021 code.... i am going to run engine cleaner than change the oil. The turbo is brand new. Im thinking about dropping the oil pan to inspect everything, as well as remove the filter before the turbo even tho tho suby manager said not to. Ughh

OP: I sense great pain in your future (read *blown turbos/motors*).

It seems you are tackling things in a pretty haphazard way--do some searching on reliability modification for these cars, make a list, and tackle the list one thing at a time. Also, I don't believe you are throwing the codes you say. The codes should have four numerical digits, not three...

If you have significant auto experience you may be ok and just not posting all of the details. Cant tell from this thread...

yea i was posting from my phone so I was short. And yes those codes were from memory and they are wrong. Sorry. It was the codes for the oil control valves. I pulled them out and they were gummy. I cleaned them and the CEL has not come back and it runs great. I heard that the oil pickup on these cars can break. So I dropped the pan to check it. I dont know how that is haphazard? Turns out the first owner of this car had the turbo go on them. The dealer pulled the engine and inspected everything, as well as a new vf40. The oil pickup tube looks almost new.

I changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic. I dont know how i feel about the banjo filter. Subaru has been telling me that it is safe to clean it but it should be left in there because it is to help de airate the oil for the AVCS...idk if this is true but i have not made up my mind on it.

I changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic.

Hopefully, a Mobil1 that does not say Resource Conserving in the API donut on the back. If it does, go drive around the block to burn off one quart. Then add a quart of Mobil1 15W-50.

I read through this thread and its a toss up IMO...My uncle bought it 04 STi new, and has been using it since day 1 changing every 3500 miles and never had a problem. I thought i would give it a try. After 1000 miles on the 10W30 Oil looks perfect and never had to add a drop. So IDK...but i am sure people will tell me my car is going to implode if I use it.

I checked the bottle it didnt have the seal you were talking about bluesubie.....I used 10W30...should i change to 15w50? I change my oil at 3000 all the time, I dont beat the car, and most of my driving is highway miles at 65mph.

I plan on changing the oil on my new to me 05 legacy gt. The car has 108k miles on it and was wondering if it was worthe xropping the oil pan to inspect the pjckup and clean the pan. Any thoughts.

OP, I am sorry to inform you, but your car should have had 43.2 oil changes already. Your turbo must be from a specB since it hasn't blown up yet. I wouldn't even worry about changing the oil because it looks like the original owner has used Unicorn blood to lubricate that beast. You should be fine for at least another 150k. Have fun and redline that baby everywhere!

Bxr4t.....my 5th post i said the turbo was replaced with a new one from a suby dealer at 100k. They took the engine out and inspected everything inside for damage. The original owner gave me all the paper work and such. Thus why i think they must have replaced the pick up tube. An older gentelmen owned it and the dealer did all the work on the car.

We've been servicing Turbo Subies for 10+ years, sometimes M1 is fine but most of the time we have seen clients who run it and come to us because they consume about 1Q every 1K miles. Same goes for the Subaru Synthetic as well. We have not seen this with the Motul and the Amsoil even with 5-7k OCIs.

I am sorry archer, I was merely expressing some humor. I am sorry that the interwebs don't allow you to see sarcasm (its very hard to read sarcasm anyways). My original post is the result of reading your title, and the following first post by you. Merely humor, that is all.

No, you didn't! I just wanted to make sure that you didn't think I was being an ass haha the only thing I hate about typing humor is that when reading it, it becomes difficult to decipher what is humor and what is a blatant attempt at a cyber kick to the gonads. Didn't mean to derail your thread either lol

I can see how you would think that by those comments actually.. it wasn't until after I hit post that I realized someone might see that as such. Unfortunately for you, I have a 3rd appendage below the belt line.

The bottle will have an API donut and will likely state Resource Conserving in the donut if you're running the "regular" or "EP" M1 10W-30. On the front it will have the "Starburst".

OTOH, M1 10W-30 High Mileage is a better oil for your application IMO. Higher levels of anti-wear additives, a "thick" 30 grade oil, seal conditioners, and meets European ACEA A3 specs for shear stability. It's not Resource Conserving and there's no Starburst. Starburst = girly man oil. :icon_bigg
