It does not work well with ECUFlash though. I always test write before writing, and it wouldn't write. A direct connection was no issue. That's fine for me, as when you're flashing your standing still, and I'd rather not brick my ECU.

I'm sure you know this but I'll just post this for the flashing n00bs. If you have a glitch, just don't turn the ignition off before getting communication running again and ending or successfully canceling the process. You can reboot the laptop to fix a crashed USB stack and still recover. Just be sure car and computer have plenty of battery time and / or chargers handy.

Test write is really cheap insurance too ;)

Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Yes. The ECU is quite hard to brick with the power on. If you cut power while the ROM image is incomplete or corrupted, you can freeze it into a state where it can't boot up, IOW bricked. Leave the power and you can still negotiate.

I did not know that, but thanks! And yes, I'll take the free insurance every time

So... maybe not flash when your battery cable looks like this, then:

It's a goddamned OEM clamp, I'm telling you. I still want to get a picture.

fahr_side, is that a (broken) OEM positive terminal clamp?

Once again, if the clamp was OEM, it wouldn't be as shiny and it would have a plastic piece clipped onto the base.

I don't see anything shiny. The part on the battery is bright because of the light. F it I'm getting a photo of mine now.

And the plastic cap could have broke off.

That might be OEM, but it's wrong. Wrong for electrical connectivity, and wrong for structural integrity. Now I want to look at mine. I'll post a photo later if I remember. And my terminals are more corroded than yours are dirty. I scrubbed them last weekend with a wire brush.

Yeah, I've got some bad news for you, BigTDogg. You have shitty aftermarket terminals on your LGT.

Here's what they're supposed to look like:

OP, where did you get that USB hub? I like the switches for each port.

The switches work, but it's kind of a gimmick to me. I got it because of the size, shape and decent cord length.

Doesn't work reliably for data logging, though that could be my VAG cable connection into the extension harness.

If you are adding it to the under dash fuse panel, I think they would be ATM (mini), at least on the 5th Gen. Adding the circuit to the engine bay fuse panel would be ATC. Otherwise, ATC and ATO are identical save for the 'O'pen or 'C'losed contact on the ends (to use for testing). Either will work and ATO is fine for interior use.
