derp
I recently installed an Invidia downpipe, and now I keep having issues. I've lost 4 nuts from the turbo to the downpipe, and nothing I do will make them stay. Do I need those nuts with the little silicone thing to stop them from loosening? do I need loctite? WTF? I could suck start a snow blower.
underground000
did you torque them to specs? try using 2 nuts on one stud, this should lock them 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
derp
yeah, they were torqued to spec. issue is, some of them don't look like there's enough stud to fit 2 nuts on. (trolls take THAT one where it will go ) i'm losing my mind, i can't keep fixing this three times a week. I could suck start a snow blower. underground000
I do not know how well loctite will hold up to the heat of the turbo... silicone nut may be good since silicone can take the heat well Do they make thinner nuts?? just throwing out ideas are the nuts the right size to begin with? maybe they are just a little bit larger like sae/metric 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
NWSPECB
Try some high temp loctite. I think they make a medium strength blue and a high strength red. Both have the same temperature rating at 650ish IIRC.
mwiener2
too hot for any chemical lockers. google stage 8 hardware My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
NWSPECB
I figured it would be but for $3 - $5 a tube of it I would give it a shot. That stage 8 stuff looks pretty good though too. Not too pricey either.
derp
I'm going to give the silicone nuts a shot tomorrow. I'll give those a few days, and if they aren't working, it's locking hardware time. any other companies i can get it from? the nearest stage 8 dealer to me is 6 hours away. I could suck start a snow blower.
RochNY91TSI
Maybe try tightening them when they are hot (obviously careful to not burn the sh*t out of yourself doing it)?
GTTuner
In the past, I have used valve grinding compound on the heads of the bolts and nuts, the abrasive acts as a lock. Or double nut them as stated above.
Moderators BarManBean Posted March 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted March 9, 2012 what about a dab of permatex on the threads before installation? "Bullet-proof" your OEM TMIC! <<Buy your kit here>> Not currently in stock
derp
Maybe try tightening them when they are hot (obviously careful to not burn the sh*t out of yourself doing it)? I ended up replacing all of the hardware with OEM subaru stuff, torqued them down, warmed up the engine, and torqued them again while it was hot. It seems to be holding up so far, but every couple of days i double check and tightness. If it doesn't hold up this time, I'll be going to locking hardware. Thanks for all the tips guys. derp
was it not oem hardware before? It was, but since most of them disappeared, I was looking into locking hardware. I decided against that and went with OEM again for now. I saved the stage 8 link, so if they go missing again, I'll get that. Thanks! I could suck start a snow blower. mwiener2
Only reason I ask is I see alot of Home Depot Hardware on cars and Home Depot hardware just can't take the heat. Usually I find HD hardware seized onto stuff, not falling off though. My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
KartRacerBoy
F*ck, when I had my downpipe installed, the gorillas doing the work couldn't get the OEM nuts off and took a blowtorch to it. They melted my turbo casing. :lol
mwiener2
They were monkeys, not gorillas, cause when turbo nuts seize, I just turn them till they snap the stud. Either way you gotta drill it out.
