pwdrdayz
wow that granite accent looks awesome. DIY??? if so.....how is that done? Yes DIY and actually pretty easy. I did cement backer board around the fireplace and used a refractory cement which is heat resistant. Straight onto the drywall above with a standar thin-set mortar. I beveled the edges on the right side where the wall angles away so I didn't end up with a gap. We have bullnosed wall corners so I built a frame out of 1x2 for the niche to create a straight edge to apply it to. Only $8/ sq ft and no need to grout. Great business model. http://www.recycledgranite.com They get granite scraps from builders and turn them into split stones. Keeps granite out of landfills, builders don't have to pay to dump it, franchisees make money and consumers can get (IMO) a pretty cool product as a reasonable price. katalyst
that is a really good deal, adds a lot of appeal at a low cost. did you just apply thinset to the drywall itself or do you need to put a backerboard of some type on first?

pwdrdayz
Judging by your location, fixt it for you. I wish. It would be so easy outdoors here if allowed. el5y
SCHM1AN - Nice! How many of you were working on that deck? Looks like you passed the posts through the deck for those benches. Are they set in concrete?
SCHM1AN
SCHM1AN - Nice! How many of you were working on that deck? Looks like you passed the posts through the deck for those benches. Are they set in concrete? Thanks! There were 6 of us in total, 3 young guys and 3 older guys working from 8am - 7pm. The posts are indeed set in concrete about 2'-3' below ground, and we did cut around them with a jig saw which only took an extra 5 minutes per board. In the coming weeks, the owner of the house will be building stairs exiting between the two benches, and also from the white door on the right side of the picture. el5y
Sweet, My dad and I worked on my deck last week, just the two of us. He came down on Tuesday, helped me pour the cement then spent the rest of the week building with me, we lost half a day due to pouring rain and then I was out for another half day while preparing for and doing an interview but all in all I think it turned out well.We did the jackhammering a couple weeks ago, and tore down the old sunroom that was on the concrete pad a couple of months ago. jasejase
We spent about 4 months looking for the right couch... that was the first one we sat in. We loved it, but weren't sold on the color. Then we sat in about 100 other couches, and nothing compared. So we sucked it up on the color choice, and got it. Turns out, we love the color.
