GTLegacy05
I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? I'm looking to install a single din headunit in my car while leaving the stock headunit the way it is and just have the climate controls work. I thought there was a write up someone did on how to wire everything so the dual climate controls still work and all and I tried searching and have had no luck can anyone help me out? sactojesse
I think folks have just done the double DIN install and added a cubby in fill in the empty space above or below their single DIN head unit. scoobyscoodle
You could always leave the factory radio as is, put the single din in the cubby above the radio, then wire it to 12v, switched 12v, ground, illum, and then splice into all 8 speaker wires. Your dual climate will work but your factory radio will no longer produce sound. People have done this but I don't think there is a writeup. GTLegacy05
yea I got it all hooked up thanks. I didn't use the cubby though since I have gauges in the cubby. I put it in where the ash tray and cig lighter is. http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad53/GTlegacy05/2012-01-17_175943.jpg

MooKz
What all do I need to achieve this? My stocker is messing up and would rather have a headunit to listen to my ipod. Haha. Special harness I am sure and did you make a custom bracket? Do you have pictures of the wires spliced and such!
GTLegacy05
pretty much buy the radio harness for subaru from bestbuy or any car audio store. then go here http://ae64.com/WRXharness.htm and buy that harness so that you can run power to the stock radio so you can still use your climate controls. I don't have any pics of how I spliced it was getting kinda late so I just threw it together quick. I might be able to get some pics when I run the rca's for the amp. no special bracket I still gotta make something to actually hold it in place its kind of just resting in there. SVXdc
In order for the factory radio and A/C panel to light up properly, you'll want both "forward" and reverse 14-pin harnesses from me (see link on that ae64.com page). Both harnesses need to have all 14 wires.

scoobyscoodle
So is the factory radio disconnected from the speakers now? Or did you get it to be dual functional?
captainobvious
Damn that is Exactly what i would want and save the $$ Im pretty knowledgeable for doing that. Just would need to bracket it up. Did you have to cut the compartment to fit the Radio Din?
GTLegacy05
yea the factory radio no longer plays any sound since the only part I wired to it was the ones that ran power and illuminated it so the climate control is the only thing that works. I still need to bracket it up so that it stops pushing in every now and then and I had to cut the dash out a little and you just unscrew the ashtray off and trim the opening just enough so that the face plate sticks through. as soon as I get time to take it back apart to run wires for the subs ill take pictures of what exactly I did to get it to fit just right.
