Mike C
In preparation for an upgraded turbo, I was considering installing an STI TMIC/intake manifold. Can anyone comment on how challenging the install is? Thanks, Mike
Mike C
Also, is the STI TMIC less/more efficient that the stock GT one?
rao
The answer depends on your experience, it is easier than rebuuilding a transmission and harder than changing the oil. No changing anything just taking things off and putting things on. (I am basing this on swapping manifolds on WRXs. Nobody knows the answer to your second question, at leaast not anybody that is willing to share. Mike C
Understood, I'm pretty comfortable with maintenance items, and basic mods such as STS, shifter bushings, uppipe/downpipe, exhaust. I didn't see a walkthrough for the intake manifold, so I wasn't sure how labor intensive it was. rao
The only thing that I would expect to spend some time on is the routing of all of the vacuum hoses. Everything is genreally the same, but not the exact locations. Keep in m ind that you will need 4 gaskets because of the TGVs. Mike C
Thanks, since no one can answer my 2nd question, I'll probably hold off until I'm sure i'm going to get a new turbo.
rao
Getting an accurate asnwer to that question will be quite difficult. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
firedawgs
Just to let you know. The STi intake manifold is not a direct fit. There is/are a couple of customizing tweaks you have to do to make it fit. Updated my vBGarage:
rc0032
Thanks, since no one can answer my 2nd question, I'll probably hold off until I'm sure i'm going to get a new turbo. Why not go with a 20g? The cost will be about the same as STi manifold + turbo.
Mike C
That's a direct bolt on w/o the need for other mods? Why not go with a 20g? The cost will be about the same as STi manifold + turbo.
rc0032
That's a direct bolt on w/o the need for other mods? You will need supporting mods and a custom tune for both paths. Injectors and fuel delivery.
