Options for rear-seat DVD

I would like to put some DVD screens in the back for the kids. Has anyone tried this? I read on another post here that you can't mess with the headrests because they are active. Ceiling mount is not an option because of the sunroof. Are there any options?

how about set-back into the plastic part of the back of the seat. Just below the headrests...

Not a big fan of the bagged units, you are usually trying to run that off the lighter or utility socket. I'd much rather have something like that wired directly to the battery. I wouldn't recomend one of those.

I know you can retro fit monitors into the headrests. I can't remember the name of the CO but you can send them your head rests, they will install the screens and wires and send them back if you don't wanna do it yourself =) Hit up google for Head Rest Screen installers or installs

Also the "bag" way is the easiest way, the cheapest way, but not the best way =) If you do screens in the headrests you'll need a HU to control and play the dvds......any though of where you were gonna put it? I have a DVD play in my dash, no kids yet so no rear screens needed. I saw a unit that is the screen and the DVD play that all fits in the headrest...again I am no help cuz I saw it on TV and can't remember the name. Man I shouldn't have posted anything. I just got excited about rear screens...LOL

Def wanna see the outcome of this research =) If i have time, I'll try and find the Co!

This is by far the easiest and cheapest method. I purchased two of these units for my kids for christmas and now have four 7" monitors on the back of each headrest in my wife's van. All for less then $500.:D . To date, not a single issue with the player or the monitors. Even has seperate pickups for inputting a game player, seperate and master volume controls, and screen dimming. Probably the best investment we've made in along time for the kids, travel, and sanity!! Here is the link to purchase:

I too bought the DVD player from Walmart.com for our trip to Virgiana this past March. Very inexpensive for what I and the family would be using it for compared to others that I looked at. Well worth the $240 we paid for it. My two kids loved that they had there own screen. The screens fit very well to the headrests of our Outback. Nices thing is that you can remove them and not have to worry about somebody stealing them. Good luck in your search.

I bought 2 of these for $50 each, nice and cheap. I like them because my kids are 3 and 4 and if they ruin one..... Oh Well, I'll buy another one. The headphones were too big so I had to get some kid sized headphones for them, other than that they have been great.

I cant find the site where I bought them, but portables can be had for cheap.

That's right I forgot about the remote. But was more like "mommy push play" and then mommy yelling that she couldn't get it to work until daddy took it from her and it would work perfectly. I keep on telling her the remote is a guy thing.

That looks great for the money. Another that looks interesting is this: http://www.epinions.com/Emerson_Mobile_MBOX_712TN_Super_Slim_7_LCD_Monitor

but I can't find any reviews on it.

Guess I wasn't clear about the Walmart items. The two 7" screen system is lik$238. A single portable player that my 6 year old has was $168. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3342529 They both come with all the goodies plus can be strapped to the back of the headrest. The other systems I'm seeing here cost more than twice as much, but I guess you pay a lot for the names these days.

I understand. The emerson system has a build-in dvd player and also inputs, so I can use one of them as either a screen or a separate dvd player (if 2 kids want to watch different things). Emerson has a built-in FM transmitter, which is cool. For the price though, I think I am going with the wal-mart one.
