stanjk3
My Grand Am only gets 20-21mpg, 23-24 on long trips. Is was as low as 16-17 last winter due to my engine running too cold. Most of my driving is city/stop & go. And I only have 175hp, 205 lbs/ft torque. My wife's car, '95 Legacy Wagon gets the same mpg as I do. But since it has 152K miles I don't leadfoot it as I do my GA. It has the 2.2L, so I'm not sure if that's normal for that car or if it has some problem I haven't found. ldc2335
Some replies 2nd - I believe that US army is trying to get vehicles with better gas milage than HMMV. You do not need such off road capabilities to patrol streets in Bagdad. 3rd - so how often do you move? My wagon (VW Passat) is quite handy in such situation. If one needs to move something bigger you can always rent what you want and drive what you enjoy. 1st - I am missing very cheap fuel too. Krzys yep the army is already using jp8 instead of diesel, but im air force and we dont, also, its not that i move alot, i just want to be able to throw something in the back of my truck if i need to.....say 10 bags of top soil(400lbs)... your wagon will be bottoming out...not bad mouthing cars cuz im trading for one but just differnt capabilities... like i said my truck runs a 14.7 quarter..not bad for a 5000lbs race weight....fuel is THE only bad thing but if it wasnt for a kid on the way, i wouldnt be trading.. this thread sucks...why do i keep posting here...?????? Im suprised they patrol in hummers and not tanks. there are bombs going off, trash in the streets, hugeeeeeeee potholes The Us government have been looking into a Mercedes SUV, the ones the british use that are Diesel and have a longer range and better MPG. boomshnka
The real solution to high fuel costs has been found in England. See this web site for the real deal (especially take a look at the "specialist fuels". http://www.petroldirect.com/index.htm This is clearly the solution. From their site: Super Leaded Petrol With four times the lead content of ordinary leaded petrol, your car will get the extra kick it needs for maximum performance. Could you imagine trying to get away with this in the US? Aside from being illegal (in most circumstances) you'd be crucified.
