shwagoneer
Ok so the black trim/ molding is peeling and cracked and I was wondering if anyone knew any way to fix this without replacing the entire part. I would just replace it, but it's pretty expensive. Thanks in advance
Kennyfvholla
remove it, get the rest of the peeling paint off, and repaint it.
shwagoneer
I would but it isn't paint that's peeling. It's this plastic stuff that covers the metal piece as well as filling that gap between the window and the trim.
Kennyfvholla
there's no way to fix the rubber seal, if that's what you are talking about. your best bet is to source out some used parts from a car part out or from a junk yard
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 14, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 14, 2011 You can peel all of it off and paint...or if you want to keep a silver look just throw a layer of clear coat over it. Ive seen several people do it If you want something a little thicker than paint, maybe spray on truck bed liner will come out nicely -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." shwagoneer
Thanks for the help guys . Ill probably peel it off and do a layer of clear coat. I would like to see if I can replace the rubber seal if I can.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 14, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 14, 2011 It looks kind of coroded and rusted a bit on your picture. Get some really fine sand paper (1500 grit at first) and wetsand the hell out of it. Then get 2000 grit and wetsand some more. That should bring it back to shiny silverish chrome. Just don't sand the finish off of it lol. THEN clear coat -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 14, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 14, 2011 Good luck! if that one messed up one comes out good after you're finished with it go through and do the rest of them like that so they all match! -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." shwagoneer
yeah!! I've got two or three other pieces of trim on my car that look like that one so i'm going to do them aswell. Its going to look so much better once I'm done.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 14, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 14, 2011 Good luck with it and let us know how it comes out. If it turns into failure, you can always just paint. If you like the silver chrome look, you can buy chrome spray paint to use... -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." shwagoneer
If all else fails I'll paint it white so it matches the rest of the car.
shwagoneer
Ok so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to remove the trim properly without breaking it. Do you guys know how to remove it properly?
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 14, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 14, 2011 I don't cause I've never had to remove it. I think it just clips in...but wait until someone else answers just to make sure -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." shwagoneer
Ok so I got kinda bored:spin:, and I'm pretty good with photoshop. so I gave the shwagon a drop and gave it white trim/ molding. This is somewhat what it should look like after i'm done. Opinions are welcome

I Donated broknindarkagain Posted November 16, 2011 I Donated Share Posted November 16, 2011 Look in the factory service manual. There is a body section of it. shwagoneer
Thanks! Yeah only issues it had when we got it was the struts and front wheel bearings needed replacing, which we did. My dad also got me the wheels as a present because it needed new tires anyway. I am currently working on the trim and I would like to replace the driver side mirror at some point because it is foggy.
