sweet-subaru
im coming up on needing 60 k service done and my dealer in vernon wants 650 to do the service this seams high to me i found fredbeans sells a kit for the service for like 170 heres a link http://www.fredbeansparts.com/index.php/subaru-legacy-gt-30k-60k-90k-service-maintenance-kits.html i mean thats all the filters and fluids that is assuming the dealer changes all the fluids rather than just "inspecting" them that leaves about 500 in labor.... has anyone bought and used one of these kits? PoManzAWD
Man $650 is INSANE for some fluids, lubes, filters and visual inspections, but I suppose it's a typical price from a dealer. $170 even sounds like an awful lot for what's in the kit in your link. @ 60Kmi, I'd spec out my own fluids & lubes and DIY. shadowsports
Convenience is everything. Buy the kit from FBP. Your hundreds ahead... take out the GF, wife or family for a treat... Start at 8am, you'll be done before lunch. Easy DIY.
Euclid
I used the FBP 60k kit for my LGT. Have the right tools and the job will be easy.
bradlgt21
Just make sure you have the right tools. Like the T-70 socket needed for the trans fluid. I would also suggest some type of hose to get the fluid in the right places. Funny enough I cut a section of garden hose and it fit in the fill tubes, then I jammed a funnel on the top and poured in the fluids, 10 times easier then squeezing the bottle over and over again. AZP Installs
650 is going rate for most dealers although some are charging upwards of 725 now! With full synthetic oils, we dont inspect we replace everything, and we only charge 500. It is labor intensive for the plugs but otherwise it isnt that bad. The only thing that can be hard without a lift is sometimes cracking the drain plugs for the trans and rear diff. -Jake http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg Call directly for your best Whiteline Price! | We also carry almost every manufacturer now, so before you buy parts call us. TambourineMan
Does the manufacturer (SUbaru) really recommend that the fuel injectors be cleaned every 30,000 miles?
ShadowImg
Dealer recommended vs Manufacturer recommended services are waaaay different. Found that out when I went to do my 30k on my spec.B. I checked with Subaru of America cust service directly to find out what they recommended be done at 30k, and did that instead.
TambourineMan
The dealer said the manufacturer recommended that they be cleaned every 30,000. Mine was in for a 60,000 mile service and they had not been previously cleaned. Googling indicates Subaru's are known for injector problems. We just use any old regular gas, not Top Tier rated so who knows what cleaners/ additives it has.
ShadowImg
You don't list your car, but, I have never heard of this. Subarus are not known for injector problems. They are known for many other problems though. Here's 2009 for example: http://www.subaru.com/content/downloads/pdf/maintsched/2009SchedFed.pdf Note, at the 60k you DO replace the fuel filter. This is a simple/basic maintenance operation though. Doesn't involve any sort of fuel injector cleaning.
Instanced
Bumping this and thread/jacking (Sorry). I've asked about tranny/diff fluids a bunch and haven't had any real direct answer... just a bunch of "i've done this i've done that"... I plan on running Mobil 1 LS 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube in the tranny and front/rear diff... I have no idea about these fluids because i've never changed them ever on any car i've previously owned. all the same fluid is easy... does that sound ok? or should I not do that? temp range in VT is all over the place so I figured that would be an ok weight. PoManzAWD
GEE-OTTO, in regards to your valve cover gasket leak, are you over 60Kmi already? Just wondering if you had any powertrain warranty left. Joel

I would NOT use Mobil 1 in the trans and diffy. For some reason folks with subies (and we see a lot of cars daily through our shop) always have issue with their trans with the Mobil 1 gear lubes. We use Subaru Extra S or Amsoil in all the Subie transes and diffys. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg Call directly for your best Whiteline Price! | We also carry almost every manufacturer now, so before you buy parts call us.
