macdarwin
Just discovered a problem while going on the highway yesterday and I thought it was just a tire making a humming noise and when the humming went away, today a sound like thud like running over a numerous stone with lots of play on the steering wheel and vibration on the whole car while going 65+ on the highway. If i let the car roll by itself (automatic) I can hear that noice like running over a small rock. but in reverse its quiet. I feel this in the front. So is this could be the Infamous Bearing or the axle? Car is a 2007 with 50k miles so I guess this is out of the warranty. This is what I saw by looking under neat the car. I really need your Opinion, thanks! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/macdarwin/IMG_20110929_021349.jpg
m sprank
Outer strap is loose. Standard Subaru. Grease is being thrown from the CV boot. Strap is not holding. Chances are CV joint could be damaged. Maybe not. But you are hearing noises. See far more CV joints go than wheel bearings.

cseagle08
Also check the u-joints in the drive-shaft to the rear. But probably is a front axle related issue.
