Rallitek turbo kit on a legacy

Recommended Posts

So I have the opportunity to pick up a rallitek turbo kit designed for a 98-01 impreza for $500

It includes

"Momentum 40t turbo

Rallitek custom top mount IC

Rallitek custom uppipe and downpipe

Rallitek tuned perfect power 6 at 6-7 psi

Short ram intake system

Blow off valve

Includes all piping and hoses"

Originally I never wanted to put a turbo on this car but this is too tempting to pass up.

What do you guys think?

What would I have to do about the IC could I make a bracket and convert the top mount to a small fmic? What about oil and coolant lines? Tuning wouldn't be a problem, but could my 420cc wrx injectors work with this kit and still be able to run E85?

Am I crazy for thinking of using this kit? I mean my car shares basically the same exhaust besides the cat back as an impreza, so everything should work besides the IC unless I can modify it, what about my clutch, I'm not sure if it's the original or not but I don't think it is (car has 134,000 miles).

Cliff notes: turbo kit designed for impreza, top mount IC conversion to front mount?

420cc injectors enough foe e85 and turbo? How much power will the clutch hold?

Thanks, Dennis

Were you going to stick with the perfect power unit for tuning? I used to be a Perfect Power dealer and the SMT-6 is a great unit provided it can control the LGT's ignition timing. You will need that to pull some advance to keep from detonating. AFAIK the 98-01 Impreza was a 2.2L engine so the TMIC won't work on your 2.5i. I wouldn't waste time with a conversion to FMIC and just buy some sort of eBay IC kit to use instead. 420cc injectors IS NOT enough injector to run 6-7psi of boost and E85. 91 Octane? Sure, E85, no way.

Thanks for your response, I'll have to talk to my tuner about the perfect power piggy back unit. I'm trying to do this all for as cheap as possible just to show that it can be done, the lot is from a 2.5 rs so does that change the chance of making the tmic into an fmic?

The questions that I sent him: Hey could you please send me some pictures of the kit, how many miles and on it?

> And why are you selling it?

Here is the response I got to the questions that I sent him questions:

there are probably 10k miles on the kit, i had it in my 2.5RS and when i moved to colorado i heard that emissions were tougher than oregon so i took it off and planned to put the kit back on after i got it smog tested. I never got around to reinstalling the kit and eventually sold the RS for something a little more dog friendly. you will need a high flow fuel pump, and some random hardware to get her all mounted up. otherwise the kit is nearly complete. some of the coolant lines and oil lines could be replaced but otherwise she is in good shape.

The kit ran flawlessly and the turbo is small enough that there is little to no lag in the spool up.

im heading to laguna seca for the motogp this morning but am available to catch a phone call or respond to email if you have further questions. http://tapatalk.com/mu/4b47973d-4ee3-1e62.jpg

That's not a Rallitek Turbo kit. Well, first off, Rallitek never released a turbo kit. They sold AVO turbo kits for the 99-04 RS models. That kit doesn't used a momentum turbo, for one, and has stainless steel uppipes and downpipes.

That's an actual AVO turbokit that was built for the RS models.

My guess is the guy basically copied the kit as best possible with cheap ebay parts, and then bought a PP6 and wired it in himself.

Realistically, the only thing you could "use" from the kit is the turbo. Nearly everything else would need to be reworked to work with a 2005. The uppipe won't work as is, because the exhaust manifold design changed in 2005 (impreza and legacy 2.5i). The downpipe won't work for same reasons. The intake MAF sensor design is different.

To be honest, I don't even think that'd work very well on a 99-03 RS!

As I said in my pm thanks for your response, and I also said that my 05 has the older style manifold and cat section. So basically I'd have to figure out an intake and intercooler system. But I can get this kit for $500 or less so I think that it might be worth it even if I have to spend another $500 to get it to work properly.

Yes in that respect it is a good deal on a platform to start since you do run the pre 06 manifold. Just make sure the parts are in good condition and you have a good idea on tuning, IC, and oiling ;)

Do you guys think I could use a fmic kit for a legacy gt from eBay without a lot of modification? Or maybe no IC at all? I know it doesn't make as much power that way, don't bash me for asking!

the easiest option for a 2.5i turbo kit is to use a fmic (since you have no hood scoop!), you'll need to buy the whole fmic kit. search for install procedure. the AVO turbo kit comes with one.

I wouldn't bother with this, personally. $1000 is better spent elsewhere.

$1000 for at least 50 more whp for a person who hasn't owned a turbo car is a big jump...

I made made this thread to be about a turbo kit not about how other I should spend my money elsewhere, so let's stay on topic.

I am hopefully going to pick the kit up tomorrow afternoon

I didn't state my question correctly, but I've pretty much found my answer. I was wondering it the piping would line up as far as the hot side.

Sorry about that you seem to be doing your research, once you get the parts you should do a dry install just to mock up the IC piping routing and to make youre the DP doesnt come to close to the wire harness going through the firewall. You should also use that fit to address where you will getting the oil supply from and oil drain to.

The IC is a pretty easy fit up but you def want to make sure you get a good drain and feed.

Shit for $400 you have plenty monetary room to "make it work" :)

Oh I know! :)

And I'm debating selling a Subaru ome sts that he tossed it unused in box, and the piggy back ecu that came with it so basically after I sell these things I should only be in the kit for 200-300 :)

All exhaust pipes will be heat coated. The pp6 is going to be sold most likely along with the 5th injector set up.

It has an aps bov as well

Nice find...I wish I could find something like this deal or piece together a descent system fairly cheap. I wouldnt mind an extra 50-100hp w/o a complete swap as I only have 79k original miles on my 01 LGT.

Honestly you could piece one together fairly Easy. Lgt or wrx manifold, up pipe, down pipe, Notch the cross member, a low waste gate psi turbo an intercooler, some oil and coolant lines, fuel pump, and my piggy back ecu with a 5th injector kit so you don't have to replace the injectors. The piggy back is already tuned for the set up that I bought it with and he said it made 210whp in Oregon with his 2.5rs.

But i'll definitely let you know I'll have to really talk to my tuner, I don't think that I really have any use for it, besides slapping it on my sisters 04 lgt :p
