loosing oil inexplicably

Recommended Posts

Yeah... Damage is already done... My personal opinion: call Subaru of America right now and get your case on file. If they drove the car with the oil light on, they will have damaged something. Oil light comes on for even a split second? At least some damage is already done.

Are you still under warranty?

It sounds like you may have a bad piston ringland, very common on 05/06 LGTs.

Have someone do or you do a compression check. This will tell you what going on in side your motor. Start from there.

Mike

Good advice. Can't stress the great information that a compression test will do for you.

Depends on how damaged it is (if you try not to drive it you will do less further damage). If you need new pistons you are looking at about $3900-4900 all said and done (Pistons, Rings, Cylinder Honing, All New Gaskets, Bearings, Labor, etc). Too bad you are in Cape Cod, we could help you out with it if you were closer.

i have to drive it, the high miles (150k) are all highway to and from work. for that estimated price i wonder if i should even keep the car or get something else, these are the terrible thoughts i'm having to decide as i love the car...so, compression test wonder if my local midas or meineke would do it since im highly disappointed w/ my suby dealer at this point. appreciate all responses

See if you can find a local subie specialist shop like us. I know of a shop in RI but not sure if that is near you. I will see if I can dig their info up for you. Midas *can* do it but I'm not so sure I would trust them either.

Are you sure the dealer replaced your turbo? Sounds to me like they didn't and your previous issues damaged the center cartridge. That sound will get worse and worse till the compressor and turbine blades disintegrate when they start contacting the housing.

Boost leak. Most likely they didn't get the IC positioned properly.

If you wanted to come up and visit us we could help get it straightened out.

See? That right there is what I'm talking about! Community! Thank you mike, I appreciate the offer and look forward to passing by sometime. I took car to dealer, they test drive it for like half hour and took turns while I waited outside paying on my galaxy tab. They were driving the car up and down the street. Half hour later they fell me"its fixed" it was a "loose hose" and they buttoned it up. Noise went away. Now trying to pull overtime to buy the clutch if indeed is bad. How do I check out?

Glad they fixed it for you!

Easy way is to check the clutch by flooring it in 4th gear if it slips then your clutch is probably going, worst case stop by and we'll take it for a test drive and see if it's the clutch.

Mike,

I'm thinking of going Stage 2+. At over 173k, I did compression check, spec, are 141psi to 171psi, at 350 RPM's with no greater then 7 psi between cylinders. Starter must be getting weak. With Battery fully charged & a charger set on 225A "Start", the motor only turn 286rpm, 1) 145psi, 2)150psi, 3)145psi, 4)147psi. How much will only turning 286 rpm, instead of 350 rpm effect my compression test.
