rice_rocket
You can sometimes rent those chains as well... get the darned chains, you don't have to put them on for crying out loud, and you can return them. Also.. don't mean to be a douche.. but just because you THINK that YOU are a good driver.. doesn't mean it's the truth. Had plenty of friends boast that... and were proven wrong. Haha.. a mistake, let alone a stupid one, can put anyone in trouble. If you get stuck in a ditch you might consider those chains.. hehe Although I hope AAA would tow you out! Mega Users seabass07 Posted March 28, 2011 Mega Users Share Posted March 28, 2011 If Yosemite is anything like mt Rainier national park, you will be turned away without chains regardless of how many wheels drive the car. Just get cheap crap cables. They are like $30 here. They will probably not help you at all, but might keep you from getting turned away. Don't waste a trip because you didn't want to get chains. Lojasmo
Chains are required for any vehicle traveling to yosemite before may. Not only commercial vehicles. They do not have to be on, but you have to have them.

Lucky Jeff
Definitely keep the receipt. Auto parts stores taking chain returns is a common thing for them. Here in WA, they can require you to carry chains, but they will never make you put them on an AWD or 4WD vehicle. They will just shut the pass down instead. I have a feeling they want you to have them, just in case you get through just before they get the area closed off, and are trying to clear everyone. Mega Users seabass07 Posted March 30, 2011 Mega Users Share Posted March 30, 2011 Just ask whether they take returns on chains. The oreilly's auto parts near me has a big sign that says no returns on chains.
Lucky Jeff
That's terrible... I'm pretty sure Les Schwab takes them back though? I can't remember, I'm not a huge fan of Schwabs
The Grouch
Well, made it to Yosemite and back. No big deal, no heavy snow on the ground. The weather was nice. There wasn't even anyone (rangers/CHP) to check whether or not I had chains. Thanks for everyone's input.
