2000_LegacyOutback
Yeah I finally found a good deal but there are some weird problems like the wipers only work when the motors off
987687
Yeah I finally found a good deal but there are some weird problems like the wipers only work when the motors off if the key is in run, but the engine is off do they work? It could be an ignition switch issue. Any issues with anything else on the acc position? radio?
2000_LegacyOutback
The key is stuck in the ignition and the wipers work in acc and Idk about radio I think my dad un hooked it bc the key is stuck in acc and don't want the battery dying
987687
since the wipers are on the acc setting the switch might be having issues. You need a new tumbler. Not really that hard to replace. Neither is the switch.
2000_LegacyOutback
Alright I was going to take it to the dealers but that would cost alot of money ill just take it to a local mechanic and see what they say hopefully its just what you said
987687
It's really not that hard. Took me about 10 minutes to replace my last ignition cylinder.
2000_LegacyOutback
Ehh im not much on the knowledge side of replacing these things. My luck it would take me hours to replace if I tried it
987687
For the ignition switch you take off the steering column plastic. It's 4 screws I think. Take off the one screw holding the switch to the tumbler assembly, unplug the connector. And put the new one in. But you need a new tumbler thing. So you need to coax out the dead-eye bolts. I usually drill a hole in the top of one the use a punch to turn them out. Then I replace them with M8 (might be M10) hex head bolts. And done! pretty easy. I found out I could do in 10 mins because my friend lost his car key so we pretended we were stealing the car.....

It would cost me probably $20 at my local junk yard. Or see if someone is selling one on here.
