SubieDriver
Paul, you almost always have good, accurate info, but I have to call into question your statement that STI is a division of SOJ. It's actually a subsidiary of FHI, which makes it a sister organization to, not a subsidiary of, SOJ. Some supporting links stating that Subaru Tecnica International is a subsidiary of FHI: http://www.subaru-global.com/news2001n000479.html (second to last paragraph): " launched by Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI), FHI's subsidiary specializing in motor sport." http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/contents/pdf_en_65528.pdf (PDF) http://www.fhi.co.jp/english/outline/pressrelease/contents/pdf_en_57058.pdf (PDF) Aside from that point, I agree with everything else you've said. Oh, and I guess I'll throw in the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Tecnica_International "Subaru Tecnica International (スバルテクニカインターナショナル株式会社 Subaru Tekunika Intānashonaru Kabushiki-gaisha?), or STI, is Fuji Heavy Industries' motorsports division. STI, along with Prodrive of the UK specializes in the preparation of a variety of vehicles for the Subaru World Rally Team which competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC). It was founded in 1988 by Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru, to promote the company's performance-oriented identity."
apexjapan
Sorry - in my mind, I kind of equate FHI to SOJ, even though it's not. Indeed, SOJ is just a division, with STI a separate division. Internal company politics in Japan are indeed complex. SubieDriver
No problem. My brain can sometimes get too detail-oriented. Where some people see things as "almost the same thing," my brain sees the huge gulf between them (after all, FHI & SOJ are made up of completely different letters of the alphabet!!!) I've never actually seen any kind of FHI corporate structure chart, but assembled a rough idea based on what I've read in various places. It seems to be as follows: FHI is the parent of Subaru, the automotive division of FHI (alongside their aerospace, industrial power products, & eco technology divisions). Subaru comprises SOJapan, SOAmerica, SOAustralia, SOCanada, (and all those other SO_ combinations), as well as STI (and probably a bunch of other pieces of which I'm not aware). Thus: FHI > Subaru > {SOJ, SOA, STI, etc.} It's interesting that FHI's documentation always seems to reference STI as being a subsidiary of FHI, but skip over the "Subaru" layer altogether. Chameleon
Damn you Subaru ... it's not our fault ... we didn't ask to be the red headed step child ... stop treating us this way while teasing us at the same time with "toys" we can't have. laufu
Hi Paul Thank you for the pictures and good information. Can you provide more details about the Subaru's on display? I also read there was an Exiga tS there also. Any more pictures of the Legacy tS?! Kevin
