Tire Advice

Recommended Posts

Tonight I have a chance to pick up some 05 WRX rims with tires for $150.

They're 5x100. Will the center bore fit our Legacy's? I have a 90.

They have BF Goodrich tires with 90% tread.

The only thing is they're 205/55/16 in the front

and 255/55/16 in the rear.

I'm wondering if I'll have spacing issues. I'm pretty

sure it would be ok as long as I dont put the 255's

on the front, right?

Wheels will fit. The rear tires should fit, and the 205's will fit in the front.

Oh, and I assure you that the rear tires are NOT 255's. They are likely 225/50/16

If they are 255/55/16, then you can't run that set of tires on your car. They aren't even close to the same diameter as the 205/55/16's.

If you have a 2WD you are good, but if you have a AWD car you need identical tires all around or you will blow the center diff/clutch.

Ah, thanks guys. And I heard it didnt matter too much about not having

identical tires on the front vs rear as it did with side vs side. Where's the

center diff on these old Legacy's?

I've only replaced the gear oil on the front (near the transmission) and rear :/

you can run staggered with awd if they are the same overall diameter but that's almost impossible to do. if you only run same size side to side not front to back you'll save your rear differential but destroy your center differential

you can use this to find the right a close stagger fit but i wouldn't recommend it

205/55/16 and 225/50/16 is close.

Best bet? Buy those wheels for $100. Then go on Nasioc and try and find someone trying to get rid of their 205/55/16 RE92's for dirt cheap. I've gotten a set for almost free before.

I ended up getting them and threw some tires on. Less than $300 total so about the same price Walmart would have charged for the old 14" tires.

I'm glad they weren't any wider than 205's though cause they're pretty close to the

strut. Doesn't ever touch or rub anywhere, but man it's close. They handle really well though. Brought them offroad today and I'm happy with them.
