New owner to a 1996 Legacy Outback

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new member here to the subaru family.

1996 Subaru Legacy Outback

Purchase Price: $300

Owner decided to sell because someone told him that he would have to replace the headgasket. The only time the car would overheat on him would be on the highway. He decided not to bother. I did, this beast has 145,000 on it.

I know the history of the car from 9/2009 - Timing belt, water pump, all pully's, all belts, rotors all around, pads all around, and 1 + yr old tires.

So why not get it, i need a bigger car as i'm a father of 2....

Here are the current issues:

The previous owner is a f**king pig! Its dirty inside and out WTF!?!?! Seriously does anyone take care of their car any more?! LOL

Rear hatch didn't open

overheating

leaky valve cover gasket

leaky rear main seal (or around that area)

bulb out in cluster by tach

thats all for now....

What I've done since Tuesday.

Oil Change

Drain & Flush cooling system - Properly bled

Polished headlights and tail lights as they looked like hell. Driver side lamp still looks crappy but passenger side headlight looks brand spanking new.

Removed catalytic heat shield that was broken

Car wash!!!! YES! Finally a car that smells like morning fresh and not dieing old man

Fixed rear hatch, it was so simple.

Any how, on to the pictures these are the only ones i took while i was at work. I'll take more :D w00t

Everything works! AC to seat heaters... im impressed, first car i've owned that every last thing worked.

12/31/10 -- All clean & Polished headlamps, could barely get any light past all the scratches. =D

It should be nice car once you are finished! It has a lot of miles left. 1996 2.5's like premium fuel, they changed over to regular unleaded in 1997. Bumper stickers... They gotta go! But I'm sure you're already going to do that.

I only put premium in all my cars. Yea bumper stickers suck! I started to peel them off as you can see in the pic LOL

wow... yeah

bye stickers!

Don't worry they will be gone and i'll snap pics for your approval LOL.

Updated pics on post 1.
