BAC5.2
Not worth trying to find one. Cost prohibitive is an understatement. whitetiger
if you want a good center diff, ppg makes a helical center for the 5mt. rallispec.com quoted me $1800 for it a couple years back when i was inquireing.
Th3Franz
Isn't the PPG front diff designed for WRX axles? Or are they making 06+ WRX diffs now? (would be news to me) -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
bettner12
Isn't the PPG front diff designed for WRX axles? Or are they making 06+ WRX diffs now? (would be news to me) i will check, odds are i'll end up with the Subaru Diff just to make my life easier. i already have an extra front axle so it would be sweet if i could still use that. bettner12
any difference in a Vicious coupling center diff and a vicious locking center diff? that's how they are phrased on cars101, the LGT being couping and the wrx being locking also found a couple JDM STi rear ends in 4.11 with mechanical LSD, probably looking to get one
BAC5.2
IIRC, all of the center diffs are the same (so long as it's newer than '99). I forgot that the LGT had male axles. You'd have to convert to female axles to use the PPG front diff. Bummer. whitetiger
the ppg center diff is worlds better than anything subaru has. a full helical center.
BAC5.2
the ppg center diff is worlds better than anything subaru has. a full helical center. There exists a single one. It's currently in a drag car. Pretty unlikely you'd actually be able to get it. I do know the owner of it, though, and I could ask if he is interested in selling it. bettner12
There is going to be more money in by driveline than I paid for the car... is that excessive? I found a jdm v3 still rear end. Its a R160 in 4.11 and a mechanical LSD. This worth picking up for $250?

mustangendsley
I guess im confused? I thought a PPG trany is really ment for full out race cars and really not recomended for dd and some track use?
Th3Franz
A synchronized PPG trans is definitely daily driveable. Straight cut gears are very noisy.. I wouldn't want to be on the highway for hours with them. They offer helical gears which are basically just as strong and quieter. Heck, I know a guy who drives his dogbox PPG on the street a lot -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
bettner12
Depends on what gearset and gear engagement you pick. I still have synchos and a helical cut 5th gear. So while being alot stronger, it wont be a bear to drive on the street and still have some highway manors.
bettner12
I think that's a viscous unit.. I tries grabbing a link from the nasioc app but I guess you can't do that... Its in their driveline classifieds listed as a mechanical diff.
BAC5.2
I drove my straight cut dogbox every day for 6 months. bettner12
Is there any OEM option whether it be usdm or jdm that would be an improvement over a vlsd Or am I pretty much limited to aftermarket and 6spd swap?
BAC5.2
You could get an R180, swap the stock 5MT flange onto it, and use your stock driveshaft. You'd just need Spec-B rear axles, IIRC. Otherwise, not many OEM options available. I like the KAAZ/CUSCO plate-type diff. Relatively innexpensive, and they work very well.
