whitetiger
You could get an R180, swap the stock 5MT flange onto it, and use your stock driveshaft. You'd just need Spec-B rear axles, IIRC. Otherwise, not many OEM options available. I like the KAAZ/CUSCO plate-type diff. Relatively innexpensive, and they work very well. r180 is difficult with 4.11 ratio. 4.11 r180 ring and pinions only exist on 1988 nissan 200sx. BAC5.2
how can you tell from the photo? Because I know what I am looking at. See the "sandwich" between the ring gear and bolt heads? There LSD is actually housed in there. Look familiar: http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/IMG_0344.jpg Pull the bolts that hold the ring gear in place, and this is what you see: http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/IMG_0353.jpg http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii287/bac52/IMG_2597.jpg Viscous Limited Slip. whitetiger
Is there any OEM option whether it be usdm or jdm that would be an improvement over a vlsd Or am I pretty much limited to aftermarket and 6spd swap? go for the quaife unit. a vendor on nasioc has them in stock for $1095 shipped. whitetiger
^sh1t, ill take that deal! i would still need spec b axles in order to put in the spec b torsen carrier. i might just buy that.
BAC5.2
I believe you are right, spec-B axles should drop right in. In fact, I believe we can get away with running Spec-B axles with any rear differential from an STi so long as the final drive of the differential matches the transmission. We can't have a 5x114 bolt pattern, but at least 6MT swaps are easier for us. bettner12
hmmm add a quaife/kazz/cusco diff to my rear end and keep everything else the same or swap to a r180 and add spec b axles? at what power level do the LGT rear axles become a failure point? BAC5.2
A lot. It takes some doin' to break axles. bettner12
it'll be cheaper and more cost effective to add a after market diff to my rear end than it would be for the r180 swap ( diff, axles) especially if i'm buying the axles new! they are outrageous from subaru... that'l be the plan then, upgrade the front diff to a LSD, swap it to 4.11 FR and install it. i'll do the rear end when possible, or i cook my stock unit.
