cody_conner
Does anybody know the average engine life?
subikid90
Forever! Its like any engine, depends on how well you take care of it. The 2.5s tend to have headgasket issues around 100k, but once those are fixed, and you have to worry about is maintaining it. I have seen a 2.5 in a forester hit 405k and still going. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

98LGTLover
There have been a couple 1998 Subaru Foresters in my area that have 450,000+ miles on the clock and they are still running fine.
kaz98gt
2.2s are bulletproof Had to throw in my $0.02 The 2.5s only real concern is the HG going; if you run on cooked gaskets, you will warp the heads, and you should probably trash the motor at that point. But I've seen a 97 gt with the 2.5 and replaced gaskets hit 370k before it got totaled at an intersection. It was a sad day
