powbmps
Before my car warms up the clutch makes a 'rubbing' sound when disengaged. With the clutch pedal in, the noise goes away. With the pedal out, the noise comes back. I'm at about 16k miles now, but the car has done this since new. The car has to be cold, so the only way I can duplicate it for the dealer is to leave it overnight. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris S.
rao
Sounds like the throw-out bearing, but if it is not screatching I wouldn't be too concerned. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
powbmps
Rob, Thanks for the reply. The noise hasn't gotten any worse over the past months, so I'll just listen for any changes. At least it doesn't smell (except when I try to drive onto my ramps). Chris S.
eamiller
I would say your throwout bearing is dying.. I've seen bearings that were dry (no grease at all) that only made a little noise.. Unfortunately, the Legacy's bearing is sealed, so it has to be replaced, it can't be repacked. Take it in to the dealer and have them check it out. powbmps
I suppose I'll have to leave it overnight at my next oil change so they can hear what I'm talking about. When I try to describe the noise to them I get the blank stare. Thanks, Chris S.
