Good lowering springs/height for New England?

What are you guys using for a drop on your cars? I'd really like to lower my car this fall or next spring, but am worried of going too low (or that any drop might be too low) with our winters here. Have you guys run into issues, or have you found it to be ok?

Any pictures would be helpful.

I have RCE tarmac coilovers - they ride fine, and I drive around Boston almost everyday without issue.

The car sits a little lower now than in that picture after the suspension settled a little more. I had no problems driving around during the winter, and I had to drive through a few snow banks.

You should have no problems driving around lowered. My previous car (VW R32) was much lower on KW coilovers than my legacy. I drove it through all sorts of conditions (1 1/2 foot snow, through 2 foot snowbanks, in a winter rally school) and had no issues. Only time it got stuck was when I tried to drive into my driveway covered in 2ft-deep snow. Got into my spot about 30 feet from the entrance, but couldn't back out again.

Here are a few pics of it showing how low it sat.

I just put Ralitek springs on Jeffs car. Sits awesome, not too much drop as to he has to drive on Boston roads.

I have ralitek springs and sways on my car. I'm really very happy with them. Im on stock struts right now, but will be swapping to Koni adjustables soon. My big thing is keeping the endlinks tight so they make noise right now but other then that I have no problems with the rought roads of CT and MA (Im in medford alot and the roads suck)

For the lgt wheels, did you have any problem with installing the factory TPMS?

For the Volks in the picture, I had Tirerack install the TPMS sensors they sell (I don't think they are OEM ones). Haven't had any problems. I still have the OEM sensors installed on my OEM wheels, which I use for winter.

Riding on JDM pinks, drop is about 1/2 inch, and I live in woods. No problems any time of year, though I do use dedicated winter tires for winter.

I realized that mine (no drop) handles fine in the Boston area and could survive fine on all the local roads with a slight drop. However, I did have a bit of a challenge on a 30% grade fire road along the Appalachian Trail with rocks hitting the skidplates. :)

Probably don't have to subject yourself to that kind of trouble if you don't want to, though.

Has anybody used cobb springs in Boston? I will be moving up there in about a month and wanna make sure I don't tear up my car. I've been up to boston many times and remember the roads to be extremely crappy when compared to dallas. I was/am debating coilover once I get up there so that I can adjust the height...especially for winter.

Id imagine New England probably has some of the worst road conditions in the country. Our cold winters make potholes seem to multiply like rabbits. Most of us are used to it though, you will be too. You'll get a sixth sense for avoiding them.

Yeah, I've seen how deep some of them get....I'm just afraid of missing one once and then tearing up my car.......not to mention, painting lanes in Boston seems to be a tough one so I would be afraid of swerving into another lane and hitting someone trying a avoid a pothole.

You're going to swerve for potholes regardless, its just instinct. Theres quite a few lowered Legacies in the area, so they could probably chime in better than me since I'm stock, but I'd like to go lower and the only reason I haven't is I'm worried about the snow.

Drop? Not in my 2010 LGT, especially here in Vermont where the roads were last repaired when they were originally built. As it is, I have to creep out of the parking garage at work so as not to scrape the front. The real test will be next month at an annual party in the Adirondacks. The road in is "rustic" and I'll have to be sure to put wheels over every bump.

What do you guys think of either the Ralliteks or the MSi/Eibach's? Shoulder lower about 1" or so in front and back, sounds like people are getting a two finger gap between the tire and wheel well. Too low for our area?

I am in Ellington, Ct and I go up to Boston to Fenway several times. I have not had an issue and I have Cobb springs with Bilsteins on my spec.B

I would personally go with Swifts if I had to re-do the springs since they match up with the Bilsteins better. Since the Cobb springs came on the car when I got it I am not gonna bother swapping them to Swifts.

I have a slight clunking in the rear but its honestly nothing I am worried about unless I should be. Its a small annoyance when the radio is off and I am on a bumpier road.

I had an Eibach Pro-kit on my 04 WRX (stock struts) and I loved the springs and had them for 6 years until I sold the car for my spec.B

I was 0.

And I'm still a zero.

I dont remember how many EFF words came out from my mouth when the potholes attacked... but as ppl said, you will get used to it, :spin:

Just slow down, take it easy just like speed bump, I run on H&R, no problem, they reduced the the rolling A LOT.

BTW, I'm getting a JDM rsb to completely kill the roll

EDIT: I moved from Nevada, seriously, Boston has the most shitty road condition I've ever seen (out of CA, OR, WA, CT and NV)
