Dash bulb

Recommended Posts

This does happen occasionally with these cars. I've only seen it happen in my car when it's very cold outside. The lights in the corner of the instrument panel don't always work. It might be a loose contact, or a tired bulb. Sometimes tapping on them or on the dashboard is enough to get it working, but not always.

To replace the bulb you need to pull the interior apart. Remove pretty much every piece of black plastic that's in front of the drivers seat and the instrument panel will be held in by bolts.

I had my cluster out already, so I decided to snap these just for you:

All of those little brown and black knobby things are bulbs. You can replace these with LEDs if you get the right ones. There's a thread around here for second gen Legacys called the $10 gauge mod or something like that. You should be able to use the LEDs he mentions in there.

EDIT

Here's the thread:

I'm drinking, so I didn't mind venturing through the cold to snap these.

There's really only two large pieces of trim you have to remove (if I recall correctly). But to remove the larger piece, you have to pry out a couple of vents to expose screws.

You may also have to tear apart the steering column trim, but that's not too bad.

Yeah... it looks like I had to trash the interior, but it's only those two pieces that are loose, that you have to pull. If you really need it, I can take photos of the manual.

After you pull those trim pieces, there are only a few screws you have to undo, then the cluster will pull out after having the clips/connectors removed. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

The center cap isn't CF, but yeah... it's a Nardi STi Version 1/2 wheel. I'm not at home this weekend, so I can't take a photo, but here's a picture I found online of the same wheel:

I need to figure out how to get my horn working again with this wheel.

Also, don't worry! The interior is muddy, but the first thing I did was clean the center piece. Going to revitalize the rest of the wheel when I start cleaning the rest of the interior.

I have a Grant Steering Wheel in my F150 that I want in the Legacy, nobody seems to know where to find a Subaru adapter. Do you know where I can get one?

Also, is that wheel a direct fit onto the stock spline? If so, where can I get one and how much does it cost?

Thank you! :)

I wish I could answer your questions, but this wheel was installed on my car before I bought it. If I had installed it, I definitely would have done everything I could to keep the horn. lol

You can always fix it. Annoying though I'm sure. I believe in the 5 years I've been driving I've used the horn 3 times. I could go without a horn

Yeah. Generally if someone gets in my way, I just blip the throttle and they get the message. But it'd be nice to have a horn, anyway.
