  2. "Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6." Don't know where it came from originally but its been in a few songs and reposted everywhere else, so why not here?
  3. I can't remember if I've posted in here before but I live in Rowley MA. I'm down for a meet sometime to check out some other older Legacy's if anyone is interested, of if I get the spare time.
  4. What can be said about a society that believes God is dead and Elvis is alive? -Irv Kupcinet
  5. Where's the downvote/dislike button? This post is in some serious need of disliking. On a more on-topic note, these cars have the rotating mass of a steamroller with the reflective properties of a mirror. I love it.
  6. It would be nice to know what year your car is, as well as which engine it has. Start there and try again.
  7. If its for a child then yeah, I'd buy it. Otherwise I'd sift through Ebay for an Ipod Touch, since its smaller, lighter, and more capable as well as having similar if not longer battery life. Plus its from a brand that somebody has heard of. Then again, a 4 year old would likely destroy the touch screen or leave it somewhere, so this might actually be the best way to go. Anyway, if anyone finds another free subscription to a car magazine post it up! I was kind of kicking myself for missing the last one.
  8. For the love of everything that is Subaru don't buy that! First off, that processor is pathetic. It doesn't support MMX, SSE, 3DNow, or any other modern instruction set. Its only 32 bits, and its slower than an Intel Pentium II or AMD K6-2 of similar clock speed. Its slower than most 10 year old processors. In fact, its probably on par with a Pentium II 350 Mhz/AMD K6-2 350 Mhz processor. That processor was never meant to power a laptop. Its not even being used for what it was designed for. Not only that, but you couldn't even run Windows XP on it, not that you could even FIT Windows XP on the 2GB flash drive, or run it with only 128 Mb of RAM. The bundled OS (Windows CE) sucks. The processor and OS are made for old first generation Palm Pilots. This is, strictly, a childs plaything. I wouldn't buy this laptop for anyone over the age of 7. That system would only be good with a Linux operating system, and even then there is no software support anywhere for that processor. Unless you're a top level software engineer with an MIT education who wants to write their own CPU drivers for that processor, your options for operating systems are slim to none. Even finding one that will fit on the HDD is going to be hard. Your only option is to load an OS onto a flash drive, and boot from the USB port everytime you turn the computer on. That still doesn't solve the driver issue, but Windows CE is really not an option with today's programs. It can barely surf the web, let alone connect to it. There are virtually no programs that run on it, and the ones that do are horrible. In short, most cell phones Literally have more processing power than that laptop. In fact, when it comes to straight up numbers, the Iphone or Ipod Touch could probably do 2 to 3 times the amount of floating point math equations per second than that laptop. The difference is the Iphone or Ipod Touch can actually run an operating system. Good luck finding one that fits on that hard drive. The list of things that laptop Can't do far outweighs the list of things it Can do. If you want a truly portable computer that's high quality, has WiFi, onboard video and audio, and plenty of hard drive space... Get an Ipod Touch used from eBay. I don't even like Apple, but I like the Ipods. The Touch has more hard drive space, more processing power, more capabilities, and its smaller and lighter. On a happier note, that free Car and Driver subscription is very useful! EDIT: The deal has expired.
  9. If I were you I'd tear the motor apart, buy the main bearings, conrod bearings, .010 over pistons and rings, a new water pump, timing belt, timing idler pulley's, then send the block and heads out. Have the block bored .010 over and honed then get a 3 angle valve job on the heads. You might want to have them check to see if the valve guides are still good. New valves couldn't hurt either. While you're at it, you might want to replace a few other things like the cam position sensor, crank position sensor, O2 sensors, and any other cheap sensors. The TPS and MAF sensors are probably fine. Top it all off with new spark plugs and wires, a fuel filter, maybe fuel injectors, a coil if yours feels like its getting weak, and a good set of gaskets for everything and you're good to go for another 280K miles. Or if you have measuring equipment you can get away with simply honing the cylinders in your garage, buying new rings, main bearings, and conrod bearings and assembling the block again with new gaskets. You just want to make sure that the bore of each cylinder isn't opened up too much, or you'll get the engine all built up and have piston slap within 100K miles. Then just put in the new water pump, timing belt, and timing idler pulley's and get it back on the road with new O2 sensors and spark plugs/wires. That would be the cheap route, but it would still be a good idea to get the heads done. Fuel injectors would be a wise investment too, even if you just sent yours out to get rebuilt. I'm assuming you have the tools for this job, torque wrench's, piston ring expander/compressor, hone tool for drill, flywheel turner would be helpful.
  10. A good swap is the older EJ25 GT DOHC naturally aspirated heads. The EJ22 N/A is of a different deck design that isn't fully closed, so while boosting it is possible, its not a very good idea, especially on an older motor with miles on it. You could run a couple pounds and be alright, but you would run the risk of burning up already tired piston rings and/or head gaskets. You would also need to make your own turbo kit from franken-parts online, mis-matching headers with turbos, cutting and welding flanges and piping, fabricating mounts and brackets, and routing intake hoses. Good luck finding a good spot to fit an intercooler. EJ22 turbo parts would bolt right on, but anyone with an EJ22T motor would most certainly not want to part it out. You'd have better luck swapping the motor for an already turbocharged one with a fully closed deck.
  11. I disagree that the EJ22 cannot be made to produce good HP and torque numbers. The EJ22 can be made to make enough torque and HP to satisfy the daily enthusiast, and it will do so with way better reliability than the pre-2005 EJ25. It will take money, but it's possible. These engines are used in VW conversions all the time, as well as light aircraft and dune buggy's. It's not because they are powerful, it's because of their proven track record for longevity and mid-range torque. They also take well to modifications. How many 1998 EJ25 engines have you seen with 300K miles on original head gaskets? None.
  12. The 1994 is a Phase I version. It uses an OBDI ECU, where as the 1996 is OBDII. The 94 uses a different cylinder head design with a different valve angle. The 96 has a redesigned piston with a shorter skirt that reduces weight. The valvetrain is also different on the 96. The 94 has a compression ratio is 9.5 : 1 and the 96 is 9.7 : 1, which eliminates the clearance between the fully open valve and the piston at TDC, which means the phase II motor is an interferance engine. If the timing belt breaks the engine will probably self-destruct. The phase I engine is a non-interferance engine, which means if the timing belt breaks the engine will just stop running.
  13. Dude, we need to build our elite group of EJ22 owners in the EJ22 Social Group. Soon we can take over the world!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Nope. Is it cool over there?
  15. http://legacygt.com/forums/group.php?groupid=10 Excellent!
  16. I totally forgot what country you were in! Doh! Anyway, that thing sounds like it's gonna be crazy!
  17. Only problem is you would have to put it in an OBDI car, since the EJ22T was only available until 1994, one year before Subaru made the OBDII switch.
  18. So I just made a group on the forum for EJ22 owners out there, since I noticed there wasn't one already. Everyone with an EJ22 powered Legacy out there should join!
