Engine Idling very badly.

Recommended Posts

My 1990 2.2L engine seems to have a misfire or just general rough firing. Car shakes a lot and it seems to need a lot of cranking when warm. It might be time to put the old gil out to pasture :icon_sad:

its all about how much time and money you want to put into a 20 year old car.

If you are handy the things to check are Crank position sensor(cps), plugs, wires, and coil pack.

Check www.endwrench.com for info on using a multimeter to check wires and coil pack. Go to archives, then search.

If it's a lopey idle chances are it's the IAC solenoid. Its not really a misfire though, it's just a very inconsistent idle that will drop the RPM's down to virtually nothing. If the car runs good at anything above 1,000 RPM chances are it's the IAC. You can clean, or replace the IAC with good results. Either way, plugs and wires will cost you about $60 for basic wires and decent plugs. This takes about 20 minutes to install and it's virtually retard proof.
