kaz98gt
atf is what you're supposed to use. the pwr steering and transmission both operate on the same type of fluid (can't remember what it's called now), and atf is for both applications. Platinum_Racing
Dexron III or Dexron IV. Castrol Multi-Import works as well. I personally wouldn't waste my money on synthetic stuff for a power steering pump, but whatever floats your boat.Mixing old and new fluid is fine. Bassnectar
ah k thanks guys im pissed i grabbed a bottle of power steering fluid that is now useless, but i guess someone will eventually need it! any advantage in using dexron IV because i have some 3 at my dads
Platinum_Racing
In a transmission it can cause SLIGHTLY smoother shifting and a reduction in friction. Dexron fluids were designed by GM to be backwards compatible, meaning Dexron IV can be used in Dexron III applications, but Dexron III CANNOT be used in Dexron IV applications. In a power steering pump it probably won't make a bit of difference. If you have Dexron IV lying around pour it in and you'll be good to go. Don't worry about mixing it.
