Moderators BarManBean Posted March 28, 2010 Moderators Share Posted March 28, 2010 Hey all, I have to replace one of my wheels as a result of hitting a pothole. I am about to buy a new wheel, but I had a question about how it will interface with the tire pressure monitoring system that is on my car. Can I just put on a new wheel and have the monitoring system work properly? I am unsure how this system works. Any feedback is appreciated! lgtgirl06
I am not %100 sure but, I think you have to replace the tire pressure sensors in the wheel. I could be wrong though.
amp0412
The tire pressure sensor from the damaged wheel must be placed in the new wheel. If the sensor is damaged then a new one must be bought and the system must be reset.
Moderators BarManBean Posted March 29, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted March 29, 2010 I don't think the sensor is damaged. Just a minor bent wheel (can only feel it at highway speeds). Is the sensor relatively easy to move? Where is it located exactly? RabidWombat
The sensor is directly attached to the valve stem, its trivial to move. I suspect the tire store will automatically move it over for you. http://www.cars101.com/subaru/tiremonitor.html
Moderators BarManBean Posted March 29, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted March 29, 2010 Thanks so much. That makes it look like it should definitely be easy to move from one wheel to another. Moderators BarManBean Posted March 29, 2010 Author Moderators Share Posted March 29, 2010 Best I can tell it's going to cost me at least $100 to get the wheel straightened and it will never be perfect and it will be weaker than original. I can get a new wheel for $180 shipped, so I think I'm just gonna do that...
