Anton
So yeh I'm pretty inclined in automotive and everything else that consists with cars. My question is, what does it take to screw up a subaru trans/engine? Why i ask this is because i saw a subaru being bid and it had 20k miles.. it was a 2007 spec B i think.. It went for $3.8k .. So if the engine or trans is crapped out, what would it take to fix? Are suabru's interference engines or are they not? Please chime in and give me your own opinion.. Honestly I would buy this car for the price, because with the people I know and the connections I have, the repair wouldn't cost as much as some other people charge. Darkness of Death
you can drop in an STi tranny in there. probably cheaper or about the price of some upgraded gearing at rallispec
Anton
yeh that is if i have problems with tranny or engine.. But with me and my father observing the car, the damage looks moderate, but actually it isn't.. Looks like i would need a bumper, headlights, bumper support, along with the frame support thingy and a new fender.. Along with a paint job.. I'm planning to be a mod freak
RJS5689
Yep, they are interference engines.
Anton
Oh ok, even if the engine is screwed up, i'm sure it won't be hard to fix it, due to the connections i have .. So any opinions on the salvage car link?
napstermike
Oh ok, even if the engine is screwed up, i'm sure it won't be hard to fix it, due to the connections i have .. So any opinions on the salvage car link? yeah, its not a spec b and $4K for a totaled legacy is about norm. it looks like it took an offset hit so the frames bent. thats prob why they totaled it. too much $$$ to get it road worthey, plus its gonna have a R title at best. Anton
R title is what im going for lol.. No way im gonna get clean title from a salvage car:lol:.. You might think it would take loads of money to fix, but for me it is not.. Once again it will be a lot cheaper, and I could make a profit out of it... jayxbay
it may be cheaper u think minus labor nd such but with the front end collission like that it could have a bent sub frame and strut towers conrol arms and everything else mechanical in the front minus some salvageable motor parts . wheel bearings could b shot bent rims, center diff , airbags are pricy, just risky... Anton
if there was any frame damage, I know people that charge very low and have the machine.. so no problemo for me.. Can always get air bags from a junk yard in Boston or something.. Besides I will have a lot of time to get the car back in shape so time is not a factor... Rims don't look bent.. I'm serious about this guys.. Buying salvaged cars is what im really into.. I have like a couple uncles and their friends that have had good money by fixing salvage cars and then selling it for 2 times the profit..

Yamarocket630
O.k. serious answer. If you are aware of the frame damage and what it will take to fix it... The engine IS interference, so if anything happened to the timing belt there are likely bent valves. Chances are a used engine will be far cheaper than fixing the original. If the transmission is damaged walk away because the car is seriously F***ED.
FLlegacy
Well in Antons defense there are a lot of suckers out there...buyers beware. IMO Anton you are going to end up putting a couple thousand back into this car along with what you will pay for it and you may not end up getting much if anything out of it. It was salvaged for a reason, now having said that you could reasonably make a bit of money just parting it out on ebay. Engines go for $1000-$2000 if it is good the trans could go for a good bit too, then you have the wheels if they are not bent and the seats, doors, trunk lid, misc interior pieces, radio. It can all add up if you as you say you have the time that would be the best and most ethical way to make some good money. Of course this is all IMO. Anton
Yes I understand sur, but parting out would be useless since i'm getting my first car around summer to fall where I will have time to mod it, maybe if i ever bought a legacy like that it could have been easier for me to start modding and making it an awesome weekend car.. I'm assuming that i'll use the parents spare car as a beater.. Besides I always wanted to start a project like this. In fact my cousin bought a 2003 RSX with 60k miles for $3500 and he fixed it for another couple BEFORE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2748/4466213996_4031392938_o.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2739/4466214020_35858d4030_o.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4029/4465437999_638dbc0961_o.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4465438013_59fc8096c3_o.jpgIN the PROCCESS OF FIXING!!!http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2791/4466214104_c4950d074b_o.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2731/4465438067_3e89b94548_o.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/4466214150_f499174967_o.jpgAFTERR~~~~~~~~ Now maybe you can see how such things are completely possible with way less the actual cost of one.. This is my inspiration.. [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/aa_productions/4466213996/]Flickr: Image[/ame]
FLlegacy
Ok now you confused me are you fixing it to use or sell, cause you are saying you are going to do both. Not all wrecked cars are equal, because it has been done on one car doesn't entirely make it possible with another. Lets not forget that Honda/Acura are a lot more common and cheaper to get parts for than Legacy's. Just want you to be sure of what you are getting yourself into, you did come on the forum to ask opinions correct?
