nicd
Apparently this is the exhaust note on the legs with the equel length header (is this standard on all the legacies now?) and twin exhaust: These are the various wav files, on one of the clips it really does sound like a lawn mower. What do you all think: http://www.tcn.zaq.ne.jp/legacy/muffler/muffler001.wmv http://www.tcn.zaq.ne.jp/legacy/muffler/muffler002.wmv http://www.tcn.zaq.ne.jp/legacy/muffler/muffler003.wmv
Sub-attraction
I don't recall offhand which markets get the 2.5T but this car has the rear LED foglight so it's either JDM, NZ or other Euro version and if my memory serves, they get the 2.0T. Back me up anyone.
nicd
This is in actual fact the sound of the JDM GT with the 2.0T Twin scroll.
Drift Monkey
Hmmm....I'm not sure how I feel about this exhaust note. I can still hear a bit of the rumble I'm used to hearing in the WRX upon start-up, but it gets progressivly more subdued as the RPMs rise. I'll be honest and say I really don't like the way it sounds when it reaches higher RPMs. It sounds almost like a Honda! :o Nice find nonetheless nicd! :)
nicd
I feel the same way as you, it is very similar to the exhaust not of hte WRX with the equel length header, you no longer have that deep rumble of the unphased exhaust gases :| . There is always a price to pay.
SUBE555
I have the video clip from the test session in vegas and the 2.5GT definitely sounds a bit throatier than the 2.0 motors IMO. Much less 'ricy'. ;)

nicd
I was looking through the Zero/Sports catalogue for the Legacy BP/BL models and in the exhaust department they have done away with the double and only offer the exhaust system as a single outlet turbo back system which might be the way to go I think, plus you save on 1 muffler  All jokes aside you would also have to get the rear bumper filler as they have done in this pic:
gtguy
Those sound clips are, uh, rather unfortunate. That doesn't sound very good at all. I remember with fondness the sound of my WRX with a Prodrive axleback. Mmmmm...boxer burble. Kevin
SUBE555
I think a part of that is their type of muffler used as well as the smaller displacement engine. The sound clips I heard were a little higher pitch than what we're used to but not too bad. Closer to what we're used to than that IMO.
axis008
Sounds ricey. I like the second sound clip though. I wonder how unequal headers will sound. -ben

Don't just tell us that kind of info and leave us empty handed! :x I'm sure the extra displacement weill help it sound a bit throatier, but it still won't take away the high end "rice" sounds. The mufflers might have made it sound bad but I blame it on the equal length headers! nicd - the single outlet exhaust looks nice, and could be quite possibly be a better setup, although it is likely to be a bit loud (for the older gentlemen). axis - unequal headers would likely sound alot better, though they might perform a bit worse. To find examples, listen to STi exhaust notes (maybe FXT exhaust notes too, but I'm unsure if they use unequal or equal), and that should be close to what it would sound like. SUBE555
Okay DM, here is the clip I am speaking of .MOV FILE It's about 4MB I think. I'm not sure if it's equal length or not, but from an interior shot of an actual model, it sounds pretty darn nice if you ask me.
gtguy
Notice how quiet the car is at 120, and how the guy can just talk about what he's doing. Trust me, at that pace in a WRX, particularly on the RE92s, you're too puckered to talk, and the car is REALLY noisy. Kevin

It is very quiet from the interior. I'm assuming this car was equipped with a stock exhaust, so that still doesn't give us any insight to what the 2.5GT's exhaust will sound like. racerdave
To be honest -- and I know this may amount to heresy on this board -- I actually prefer the sound of the equal-length headers as opposed to the old "boxer" sound. The boxer sound always sounded like a misfire to me. I recall when the Subie WRC cars changed to equal-length a few years ago and it was music to my ears. :)

SC GT
I imagine a Leg GT with dual Prodrive mufflers (w/oval tips, perhaps) would sound pretty sweet.

B4_Maniac
I wonder if Amuse would be kind enough to make a titanium exhaust..I know they don't usaly do Suby stuff..but I think a titanium exhaust would compliment the new legs weight loss..and keep the diet going... apexjapan2
The new Legacy will sound like a grown up WRX. For those who think the JDM sounds bad, apexjapan's car sounds rather like a Ducati superbike - and if you can say they sound bad then you deserve to drive an I-4 1.5 NA  It really sounds tasty now :D
