My dad is going to go look at it this week and see how nice it is and what they want for it. 98LGTLover
That would be really cool if he bought it! If you could get that car for 5 grand I think that would be a smokin' deal because you don't come by those everyday.

kaz98gt
there's always the better lgt. guess the grass is greener somewhere where we aren't love. it's what makes a subaru a subaru, and makes us want the better ones even more hahaha
98LGTLover
Haha true! My car now needs a steering rack, transmission replacement (soon), and the headgaskets are going to need to be done soon... That adds up to like $2,600 bucks because I can't do any of it myself FML! subikid90
Head gaskets are not that bad. My dad made me do all of the work on mine. Keep a repair manual and a laptop with this forum up haha. There is a guy on here that's doing one now and he is putting up a bunch of pics of the job. Maybe someone on here lives close to you and can give you a hand. It will save you so much money in the end. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
98LGTLover
Yeah but I don't think I'd want to do it myself. I would like a dealer to do it. Just personal preference because I don't trust myself to do it.
subikid90
I don't blame you. I will say i never though my motor would run again when it was is a million pieces. I sure did learn a lot about the motor tho -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
98LGTLover
I'd like to learn all about it... Just not on MY car lol I finally figured out my supercharger noises. I said on here how it gets worse when I turn. Well it is the powersteering and it took me 2 months to figure out the power steering fluid is low. Go figure. subikid90
Its always better to find it eventually then never. Did you notice a difference in steering when you filled it? -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
98LGTLover
Haven't filled it yet, just figured that out tonight at about 6. It will be going to the dealership tomorrow to get it filled. My dad works there so it'll be free! But I need to get a tranny service and that won't be free lol
kaz98gt
checking fluids is the best way to keep everything running for a long time I heard that on the newer cars and some new subarus that the transmission is sealed completely so there's no need to add fluid and no need to ever drain and replace fluid/gaskets/whatever. my mom's tribeca doesn't have a pan or a plug, and there's no way to get to it, but apparently it's a sealed system. this the norm nowadays? subikid90
That seems weird to me. Seems like it will cause problems when the cars get to 200k+ miles. Ive never heard of that before. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
98LGTLover
That does seem weird! But the new Subaru's, expect the Forester, have manual trannys or the CVT. Maybe the CVT doesn't need fluid changes. My car took over half a quart of power steering fluid, I guess being that low would make it make some noises lol Do you guys have any idea how much it costs to get the transmissions in our cars rebuilt?
