Connectors for MAF and TGV sensors?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Subaru uses standard connector types for the MAF sensor and TGV sensors? I'd like to buy a connector with pigtails that I can plug in where the TGV used to be, and also one to plug into a MAF sensor.

I've got this idea to try to use a TGV position sensor wiring to log the MAF signal (both are 0-5 volts) from a MAF sensor in a blow-through location, so that I can get a head start on the MAF scaling. Ideally I'll be able to just log a few WOT pulls, open the data in Excel, look at the MAF reading from the stock sensor and the voltage from the new blow-through sensor, and create a new MAF curve that just works.

I could hack something together but I'd use proper connectors if the option exists... anyone know where I can find some?

Thanks!

Those connectors can't be bought anywhere but Subaru or cut off a used harness. You could go to a salvage yard with each sensor in hand and just start looking under the hood of late model jap cars. Worse case scenerio; get the heat shrink and solder and make permanant wiring. It's a good idea. Glad to see someone trying blow thru MAF here.

I'm sure they're out there, you just have to find them and figure out how to buy them in low volumes. A few months ago I had to hunt down the connector for the Apex'i AVCR/Greddy Profec boost control solenoid, which is also the same as the factory 93+ Rx-7 boost control solenoids. I knew they were AMP/Tyco connectors, because AMP/Tyco makes ECU harness plugs for a lot of Japanese cars.

I ended up going through Tyco's online catalog and looking through all the 3D CAD drawings to find out what I needed--it was a 2 way Econoseal plug. Then someone who was collaborating with me got Ballengar Motorsports to order and stock them. Otherwise if you try to get them from the manufacturer you end up having to buy in large quantities.

It's likely that the connectors are made by AMP/Tyco or Sumitomo. Look through the connector pics at Ballengar Motorsports first: http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/index.php/cPath/109

You can hunt down Sumitomo connectors here:

and AMP/Tyco here:

Carquest also carries a lot of connector pigtails, although I've only bought GM/Delphi/Weatherpak from them. Go to Carquest and ask if you can look through their catalog of connector pigtails. Take pics of the Subaru connectors from several angles and see if you can find something.

I'm thinking the MAF connector could possibly be the AMP SSC series? http://www.tycoelectronics.com/catalog/feat/en/c/11392?BML=10576,16358,17560,17553,17684

I don't know, you can look into it.

On the search for a new DD...

Bumping an old thread but I had the same problem. I ended up finding a company called iWire and they sell a bunch of Subaru connectors including the TGV. Here's a link in case anyone is still looking. Hope you got your problem solved already!

I second this. I contacted iWire and purchased the male connectors for the 3 pin tgv from them. I suggested they add them to their site for sale as they already sell the female connectors (harness side). The owner was very helpful and great to work with.

Thanks for the great info!

I gave up on blow-through due to a turbulence problem so I'd forgotten all about this thread, but I'm sure it will be useful to the next person who wants to do something creative with their TGV inputs.
