I told my Subie dealer I would not buy my LGT with the wood trim...they changed it to the silver no charge.

The silver looks soooo much better than the fake wood. I tried to do the same thing with my dealership but they wouldn't budge, so I had them take $300 off the price instead. I'm now ordering the carbon fiber from the 2011 and will install myself. I wish they would have just done it for me, then they buy anything they break. You definitely did it the right way sohlman.

Is anyone still interested in trading the faux wood for silver? I wanted the new carbon fiber trim pieces out of the 2011 LGT but Fred Beans quoted me $333 + shipping for 7 pieces.

Or..does anyone know what the dealer charges if you order the silver?

I bet the silver pieces cost less than the CF ones, probably worth checking into. Then sell your wood ones for a profit.

I'm willing to just buy the silver.

I need the part numbers for the dash trim. Was only able to find the L & R door trim pieces. Would you happen to know the part numbers for the dash pieces Rutchard?

I'm swapping out my faux wood trim for the silver today. I have the doors done, glove box and the piece to the left of the steering column. Here's my question, how in the hell do you get the piece out to the right of the steering column, just behind and above the ignition? I have all of the lower dash off, but I cannot for the life of me get that little freaking triangle piece out. I can get my hand behind there, but no leverage to unscrew the damn thing. Did anyone take that entire piece out, or what did people do?

The other directions in this thread were fantastic, thank you for posting those.

UPDATE: uh...hypothetical question. If you dropped a screwdriver behind the radio/HVAC area, should you be concerned? Would you tear the whole thing apart to get it out of there? Any concern it will interfere with something, rattle or cause a problem?

haha hypothetical. i would be a little concerned considering there are blend door motors and other moving parts around that area. might also cause a rattle but that wont do anything except be bothersome.

Ugh...I didn't realize there were moving parts back there. I'm pretty sick to my stomach right now. I can't believe I dropped that screwdriver. Parts were 90% installed. *sigh* I'm going to try a magnetic snake tomorrow, maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for the response.

On top of that, I closed it all up with 6 new silver trim pieces installed and 1 freaking woodgrain piece left because I could not get it unscrewed from the dash.

have you tried getting it from underneath? idk how far it dropped down but it might be easier to pull the panels back from the bottom and reach up.

Yup, tried from underneath, I can get a screwdriver on it, but there's no leverage to actually turn the thing and the space is barely larger than my hand. Oh..and I lost the decent screwdriver I had. :)

You need to take off the trim surrounding your NAV or Radio to get to a front mounting screw to remove the trim piece that holds the little triangle trim.

Hey guys, what is the name of the tool used to remove Clip A?

Alrighty, just got home and now I've got access to my manual ;)

Front door:

Rear door:

How to disconnect the cables for the door handle and lock on both front and rear doors.

I didn't go quite in the alphabetical order they listed, I started at the back corner of the door card and got the bottom row of clips out, then went up the sides in the order listed.

Don't forget to remove the screws by the door handle and lock! I broke a door card on a different car once because I forgot about those screws...

I like the new wood look and was thinking about the maple, but after looking at the original Subaru, I like the red tones of it much better. If anyone out there is still in the market to swap my silver for their wood I would be interested. Dogging the Subaru fake wood is ironic when folks praise the new fake vinyl wood add on.

Just goes to show you how bad you can f it up when you lose attention to detail. Nobody cares if it's vinyl, just give us plausible deniability.
