Blue Battery Corrosion?

Hi Guys,

I was just checking my oil when I noticed that there was some blue power-like battery corrosion around my positive terminal. The negative was clean.

I started cleaning it up when it occurred to me to take a picture.

Any ideas as to what that may be? It's an 08, so the battery is 2 years old.

FYI, I am running an aftermarket sound system (4 channel amp, stock headunit, no sub). As you can probably see in the pics, there is the amplifier wiring connected to the positive terminal, so the red cover doesn't sit nicely.

get some cleaner and protector spray as such and a battery terminal brush. use the cleaner spray and brush and remove every trace of gunk. then spray each terminal with protector liberally. DONE!

Yea, thanks...

I've never seen blue corrosion before and I'm wondering what causes that. A dying battery? A bad connection? Dirty terminal? Something else? I've always thought that battery acid corrosion was a white powder, not blue. I could easily be wrong however.

Any recommendation? Leave it alone? Clean something? Replace the battery?

Thanks.

How old is your battery?

Another easy way to clean it without taking it apart is to mix baking soda with water and pour it slowly over the terminal. The baking soda is a base which will dissolve all the acid neutralizing it.

this is about the same as the battery cleaner sprays. the problem is the corrosion is every where. simply pouring the solution on it or spraying it does not remove ALL the gunk. there is still some in the nooks and crannys and it will come back.;)
