JohnC
OK so I decided to investigate today, and it turns out that the mechanism inside the seatbelt works on a ground circuit In layman terms, that means the following: Seat belt out = switch allows +12V to pass through. Seat belt inserted = switch is disconnected. Here we go: Step 1: Stick your fingers in here and pull outwards (towards you). http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9495/1mediumh.jpghttp://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1mediumh.jpg/1/w800.png Step 2: Buckle now open. http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/9663/2mediumq.jpghttp://img197.imageshack.us/img197/2mediumq.jpg/1/w800.png Step 3: Push the little black tab in and the circuitboard should pop out easily. Note the white sliding switch attached to the board. http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/8782/3mediuml.jpghttp://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3mediuml.jpg/1/w800.png Step 4: Slide the white switch off the board, you don't need this anymore. http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/7470/4medium.jpghttp://img242.imageshack.us/img242/4medium.jpg/1/w800.png Step 5: Put everything back together. Done! This disabled the seat belt chime for the drivers side, I'd assume not for the passenger side but I will have to test that later. Also disables the 6 chimes when you first start the car. I did this on a 2009 Legacy 2.5i, but I'd imagine it would be the same for all models.

08Legacy08
You can also turn the key on and bulckle and unbuckle 20 or 40 times I think - can't remember exactly. Turn key off and then start car. It turns off the seatbelt chime.

Max Capacity
Yep just did this to the 09 Spec, and did it to the 05 years ago. The drivers seat buckle is like made to easily remove that cover. You don't need to touch the passenger seat buckle. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
