05GT Guru
Fantastic to drive and mileage is terrible as expected for a V8 car with that power. Really my vette makes almost that much and gets 30mpg freeway. But seriously those are some badass cars, nice choices. How much do 2000 m5s go for these days? How much do 2000 m5s go for these days? That's cool, you win, i'm not in a 'best gas mileage contest' or else I would have brought a different weapon to the table. Seriously I don't care I know you were joking. 2000s go for anywhere between $15-25K depending on mileage, condition and mod/modless status. the 01-03 are more desirable because of the facelifted headlamps/taillights/widscreen navi unit/instrument panels and additional options like motorized sunshades and parking distance sensors. But the core of the car and drivetrain/engine mechanicals are exactly the same. Some who don't care about those will get an 00 if its a little cheaper and upgrade the lights and other cosmetics themselves.
blongo804
Edkwon, really like the looks of your Genesis! In my opinion, it's a very classy looking car and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if that was my market in the future. Update pics as often as possible with whatever mods you do! farberio
^ Uhhh Genesis is gone because apparently there is a HUGE demand for 09 CPO Genesis V8 sedans right now, so my dealership bought it back from me.

edkwon
So after having a new genesis and a used m5 which do you prefer? If you had to use both everyday? Haven't had the M5 long enough so too early to say, I'll have a better answer for you after a year or so. Both have approx the same hp (380 vs 400) and curb weight (4006 vs 4024 lb) but feel like 2 different cars. The Genesis is surprisingly nimble for its size and a terrific ride but isn't close to a sports car while the M5 is a scary machine in the guise of a mild clark kent business man. The Genesis is at its best at slow crawl or highway cruising speeds while the M5 is at its best revving the nuts off the engine (driving conservatively is supposed to damage the engine over time with carbon deposits in the cylinders). So i'm not going to give you a straightforward answer and let you interpret. I'm treating the M5 more like a 4 door Porsche 911 than a daily driver at this point. The old M3 coupe is taking the lions share of my daily driving, which is far less on power, but that power is useless on my daily drive and the nimbleness makes it fun to drive in the city. katalyst
man, that's just awesome, driving a M3 and M5 haha i don't know many people who can say that lately i've been in a E39 M5 phase too, don't see them in the color that you got that often either. TrueWhiteBoy
Beautiful. I was joking about the gas mileage because it was the first thing I asked when you got the Genesis. Any chance you'll be visiting Vegas and plan on getting drunk enough to let local forum members get a chance to drive it?

Penguin
I always like the E39 5 series cars, and when I worked for BMW I got to drive just about all of them. Great cars. The only thing that makes me leery of them (especially the M5) is when something goes wrong you are stuck with fixing a $70,000 car that is only worth maybe $25,000. SurlyOldManMN
That's not a problem if you only paid $25k for the car...
Penguin
That's not a problem if you only paid $25k for the car... It's a big problem when you need to buy parts though, because they are still priced like they go on a $70,000 car. Maybe that fact escaped you. Plus they are not ubiquitous or widely available. It would be one thing to buy a Cadillac CTS-V in a few years when it is out of warranty, parts for that car will be easy if something mechanical goes wrong. Basically you are looking at a small block Chevy and the transmission(s) are even pretty common. Not so the M5.

So I picked up one of these used, a 2000 M5 http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6207/6109617221_fa882eb8ca_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6066/6110169718_b28e71e4ea_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6184/6109625409_6a5e0a00db_z.jpg Got a quality performance car huh? Good move. Used 2009 Genesis 4.6 Sedan for $12,900. Pretty cheap for a two year old "luxury" sedan. Didn't these sell for 35K-40K? http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/hyundai-genesis-cars412616902;_ylt=ApQ1tJTE2RcglHk6QfO1eCK4XZJ4;_ylv=3?sortcol=price&sortdir=up&listingtype=used&model=genesis&make=hyundai&distance=any
