markc0220k
bought an RE Audio 8" sub. don't fit right and i will be selling/Returning it and getting a 6" kicker one instead. the factory woofer looks weird. never seen one like it before. pics later. i'm at dealer now. yes, you need a little mod to get that 8" sub fit in. my 8" sws8 is perfectly sitting on the stock hole. but question is... mine is shollow mount, its tmd is just about 3inches! mark ps: if you are getting that 6" kicker for the stock hole, let me tell you this... stop the delivery! coz i'd tried it, it won't fit at all ! and think about it, if you have two choices - 8" and 6" sub, and you'll need to do some modification anyway, why don't you pick 8"? Mine came with a factory 6.5" woofer there. there is a steel adapter plate. (pics later) i measured it. $35 plus shipping to who wants it. i want to stay close unnoticed (read: under the radar)
markc0220k
Mine came with a factory 6.5" woofer there. there is a steel adapter plate.. i was just like you before... i thought i could replaced it with 6.5" kicker too (pls see my pics on my previous post) but they won't fit each other, the screws on the sub was just edge of the plate, meaning it's impossible drew hole, it's too close to the edge! ...anyway, what i did was removed the plate and placed 8" sub into the stock hole. i got it done in just a morning! and even i'm a little picky guy on all qualities of each notes goes into my ears, i'm very satisfy of my sys now. beside, are you still using stock amp (under the psg seat) ? markc0220k
Trust me your better off getting this http://dls.se/en/car/prod.html?produkt=en_120 how could you sit a sub with almost 5"tmd on the rear deck without hitting the torsion rods?

I got it in in about 30 minutes. took longer trying to get rear deck off so just used stubby screwdriver and it come off with not much hassle. the bars for the trunk also touch it when closed. were it not for the rubber boot it comes with on magnet, i'm sure i'd get vibration. i haven't even plugged it in yet. kinda avoiding cutting the pigtail as much as i could. the stock amp is still there. considering custom sub enclosure on the sides then i'll have to go with new amp or two. i like staying under the radar. military ID can only get me out of so much. 4S-TURBO
So is it possible and logical to cut the sub wires and run them down to a prefab box? I already have a JL sealed prefab box with two 10w0's that's been collecting dust for the past 6 years. I am not happy with the lack of bass output of the Harman Kardon system. My stock FXT sub setup sounded a thousand times better.
markc0220k
I have an 09 and the bars are about 2" away from my sub you sure your torsion rods are free from that huge magnet? either you open/close your trunk? reason i ask this question is because.. before i bought this shallow sub, i also checked the distance btw the deck and rods. yes it does have pretty good room to place a 4"+ tmd sub with the trunk either closed and opened. but when the trunk is opening/closing, the rods scroll and thus i think it'll probably hit the bottom of the sub. don't they? mark
legacyduane
Nope. If the trunk is open closed or closing they never get close to the magnet.

markc0220k
note the mark on the letter "R" where the bar touches. I also have an 09. thanks for your sharing nightspeed98, i had been seeking for the solution and pics for long long time (1+yrs), thanks again! ok, back to the topic, if the torsion bar can touch the "R", then how can you close/open the trunk (coz in other pic, it shown the bar was on the other side when your trunk is closed) ? and, how many tmd your RE sub is? thanks : ) mark

Chad W
Is it wise to be using such a small box woofer (RE 8") in a free air set-up? Typically the same mechanical qualities that work for small box, are antithetical to free air.

ssuubbii
I am trying to replace the rear shelf HK subwoofer in my '09 Legacy. Does anybody know how many ohms the stock HK sub is?
0Subie9
BUMP. Okay you guys lost me in all your audio lingo lol. I like the idea of the factory replacement for the HK sub. But obviously this sounds like its going to be a project to complete. So in an earlier post I read that the factory amp has 2 openings for subs and only one is used for the HK sub (I have an 09 Leggy) I have a 12" sub in a box just sitting around. Is this something that can be plugged into the factory amp? I'm not sure what the specs are for this 12" It's a kenwood. I used to be into systems and all that stuff but I stopped when my daughter was born 4 years ago. I forget a lot! Thanks guys
sedele
Bump! The stock open air sub in my 09 is blown and i would love the most effective bang for your buck solution.
