exhaust paint???

I had my exhaust custom done about a year ago and since then have grown tired of the bright chrome exhaust tips that were welded on to the straight pipes. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for taking that bright chrome to a dark chrome, would I have to have new ones welded on, could I use a high heat paint, or is there any other way?

you could try the duplicolor black anodize paint.. i don't think the tips would get hot enough to effect the paint to the point of making it discolor or peel since it is so far from the heatsource..

other than that idk any other options besides scoring them maybe to a brushed look

the tips get hot enough that paint would peel IMO. unless you want a flat or matt black (hi heat/ manifold paint would do the trick)

did you do this to your car? or do you know of someone who has? I just want to make sure I don't do this unless it will continue to look clean.

Why blacken the exhaust tip...?? i feel that chrome exhaust gives the car an upmarket look which a legacy will carry that kinda look well...

bmw 550 comes with black tips (or at least my bosses does).

i think if you can get some kind of black chrome looking tips it would look pretty good if you tuck the exhaust up nice and tight in the opening. it should give a pretty stealth look to the rear end of the car which seems to be the way a lot of cars are coming these days.

post some pics when you're done :)

I'd love to paint mine.

For those that have painted... are you pulling your mufflers off to do it? How terrible is that to do...with "non fancy" tools etc.? The bolts look REALLY rusty, like it would be a total bitch to take them off, let alone get them back on without a leak.

i painted my stock cans completely black with some high temp exhaust paint good till 1200 degrees(i think) i will let you know exactly what its called when i get back to work monday. I'll take pics of it when i get my car back from subie dealer. I took the exhaust off and cleaned it up nice and then put 3 coats of the paint on each can. no chips and peeling yet

Some people want a sleeper, and others don't want all the shiny stuff.

I don't like the shiny stuff...
