cklegacy2006
I had my exhaust custom done about a year ago and since then have grown tired of the bright chrome exhaust tips that were welded on to the straight pipes. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for taking that bright chrome to a dark chrome, would I have to have new ones welded on, could I use a high heat paint, or is there any other way? frkkevin
you could try the duplicolor black anodize paint.. i don't think the tips would get hot enough to effect the paint to the point of making it discolor or peel since it is so far from the heatsource.. other than that idk any other options besides scoring them maybe to a brushed look 512whp/465ftlb 2005 5EAT Legacy (Build Log) Videos - -

I just want to make sure I don't do this unless it will continue to look clean.
LuckyBob
I painted my stock cans black (not the tips) with some Duplicolor engine paint going on a year ago. Did three coats and it still looks great.
cklegacy2006
Just wanted to give an update, painted mine flat black, looks amazing still. It's been about two months since I did them. I used high heat engine paint.
MindzEyeWRX02
To bad there isn't a manufacturer that makes a flat black exhaust for the LGT. Apexi makes one for the Impreza, got it on my WRX.
autumn GT
Why blacken the exhaust tip...?? i feel that chrome exhaust gives the car an upmarket look which a legacy will carry that kinda look well... http://subarulegacy.sg/garage.php?mode=view_gallery_item&type=garage_mod&image_id=
HuRRiC4Ne
use HPC coating... its a ceramic coating that can handle high temperatures. I have seen Headers coated with it. and it looks cool... you can get it chrome! http://www.hpcoatings.com/ check'em out
smokedoutv6
Why blacken the exhaust tip...?? i feel that chrome exhaust gives the car an upmarket look which a legacy will carry that kinda look well... http://subarulegacy.sg/garage.php?mode=view_gallery_item&type=garage_mod&image_id=987 bmw 550 comes with black tips (or at least my bosses does). i think if you can get some kind of black chrome looking tips it would look pretty good if you tuck the exhaust up nice and tight in the opening. it should give a pretty stealth look to the rear end of the car which seems to be the way a lot of cars are coming these days. post some pics when you're done
Gmoe
I'd love to paint mine. For those that have painted... are you pulling your mufflers off to do it? How terrible is that to do...with "non fancy" tools etc.? The bolts look REALLY rusty, like it would be a total bitch to take them off, let alone get them back on without a leak.
