nice write up man. my biggest fear is that im not going to seal them back correctly and have hem leak and get condensation in them.

Yes, this is my concern too. I have way to much wet weather to deal with.. Maybe in a year or too after my car is not so new to me.

Cleared mine today before it started to rain. Though be careful when putting the headlights back in, I was rushing cause it was starting to rain and broke the corner of my lens off.

looks great. Pretty nervous about this mod, guess ill have to grow a pair and do it next weekend.

I was really nervous about doing it too, but it was actually extremely easy, just very time consuming. Took me and my friend about 4 1/2 hours from start to finish. Kind of annoying that you have to remove the bumper, but the end result is very clean, and an absolutely necessary mod.

Ouch....that sucks! Did you super glue it back on? I think its very common for those corners to break, even some dealers have issues with it if people are not careful with shipping.

How did you get access to the screws at the sides of the bumper skin that hold the skin to the side fenders? When you pull out the wheel well liner there are two screws that seem impossible to access.

Naw not yet, I need to find some foam so I can make it flush with the main lens. Don't want it to look crooked or anything :)

Our bumper is only held by one pop-it/screw on each end (i don't know what they are called but they are just like the ones underneath the bumper)

Once you remove the wheel well liner you can easily see it, it's right on the end where the bumper meets the fender...there are no more screws that hold the bumper, you can just pull it out.

If its your first time removing it, it will seem like your gonna break something when you try to pull it out, but that's just how it is...still try to be careful...

look at pic4 at my first post and you'll see the corner of the bumper

lol, you don't have to be a handyman or anything to do this, its really simple...you just have to make sure you do some research and have some spare time, that's it! (i have absolutely no experience with cars or with any type of this work and it turned out fine)

Great write up! I'm new to the Legacy family and this helped me to clear my lights.

Step one - Grow a pair

Step two - Take off all the pop its around the bumper (a flat head screwdriver works well). Just pop the tabs up and pull them out. There are a few on top and underneath that are easy to find. But make sure you remove the ones in the wheel wells before trying to pull the bumper off. They are right in the wheel well where the bumper meets the rest of the body.

Step 3 - After all the pop its are removed and if you don't need to mod your grill the bumper and grill should come off in one piece. Just start with one side at a time and it should release from the bumper with a little force.

Step 4 - After removing the bumper and setting it aside there are about 6 screws in each light that need to be removed. I did one light at a time to ensure that I knew how to put it back on. Remove the screws and the light should come out no problem.

Step 5 - Remove all the bulbs and wiring from the light. There are also three screws on the back of the light that need to come out. After this throw it on some aluminum foil in the oven. I did it at 260 F for 15 minutes and there was no damage to the lights. Just loosen the tabs and pull apart with some force.

Step 6 - After the light is open and apart there are three screws inside that need to be removed. Take these out and feel free to customize whatever you want. I just took off the orange reflectors which was harder than I originally thought. I used a butter knife and slid it in an opening working it around the edges until the reflector popped off (be careful not to snap off the corners of the lights).

Step 7 - Put the light back together and stick it in the oven. I did the same temperature and time as when I first baked them (260 F for 15 min). I then pushed them together and much as I could, put the screws back in and popped it back in for another 5 min.

Step 8 - Good luck putting your car back together! It looks messy and hard but everything pieces together like a puzzle.

I don't have too many pictures but here are some and an example of how to do the pop its for those who don't know.

Looks good Blind Dude, I'm glad the write-up helped... You should look into blacking out your headlights... it will look really good with your car color. Here's some of my pics

I really do think the black headlights will look good... it looks good on pretty much any light-colored car... I'm not a fan of the really dark wheels though, but I do like how the dark tint goes with the HGM color... Here's a crappy photochop of my headlight on blind dude's car...

A black lip would also look great and there's a really cheap one on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-07-IMPREZA-STI-URETHANE-FRONT-PU-LIP-V-LIMITED-S204-/190449798669?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c57b14e0d#ht_3696wt_1165)

And there's a thread about this lip... it fits pretty good on 08-09 models (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/warning-06-wrx-lip-05-lgt-inside-132871p22.html)

Blacked-out headlights, and this cheap lip make a really big difference in appearance... I would recommend it to anyone, especially if the car is light-colored

nice shop job.... i went and looked at my car in the sun... after seeing the chrome in the grill, the white in the headlamp already and the clear fogs... i couldnt imagine a blacked out headlight looking like it fit in. even with a lip i cant see it.

My car in question...

If you just make sure you leave the chrome ring, people will never tell that your headlights are modified... they have a "stock" look to them when you leave the chrome ring... and if it's a "stock" look, then it will match with any color... So here's another crappy photoshop... i tried looking through all my pics to find the closest angle and I pasted my headlight to your car... just don't pay attention to the distortion that i had to use to make it fit.. lol...
