Fuel economy?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to pick up an 09 OBXT, and wanted some real-world fuel economy ideas.

I drive about 8 miles of backroads with hills to 15 miles of highway each way every day.

Really, I'm just curious about what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting in general.

I'm hoping to get at least 23mpg mixed. I have a mostly light foot, so I think it's possible.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. It seems that, in I-mode and with a reasonable foot, 27 to 30 mpg isn't impossible.

That would be fantastic.

I'd like to get the same or better miles-per-dollar than my wife's 09 Impreza Hatch gets (22.5mpg with the 4EAT and a mostly short, city commute).

In the winter i get like 21 with mixed driving, it's probably winter gas plus the fact that the car is colder longer. In the summer I'll get like 23 or 24 mixed, and up to 28 or 29 on the highway.

I hate winter, I get such bad mileage. Probably because I only drive 6 or 7 miles at a time on average, so there is a lot of idling to warm up, and then not being fully warm and wasting gas.

But even in the winter I usually average 26 on my legacy, over 32ish in the summer :D

My last Legacy was lucky to see 12mpg... :(

Lets hope this one does better :)

The standard shift helps... going 40-60 mph I average 30-34 mpg with my Stage 1. The highway @ 75-90 takes that down to 26 mpg. Keep it outta boost and all you've got is a heavy 4 cylinder...

The 30-34 statistic is my 20 mile (before dawn) morning commute without traffic but with lights. The 26 statistic is over a combined 5000 miles NY-FL-NY-FL.

Something was wrong with yo' legacy! Mine has a nice healthy 2.2L

Mine had a nice healthy 378whp/408lb-ft 2.2L. Boost is addicting indeed...

Luckily this car will stay mostly stock. Maybe stage 1 or stage 2 at most. I'm done with major go-fast modding. I've been there and done that.

You only got 26mpg at those speeds? Perhaps I'll slow down on the highway then... My Forester only gets 20 at 70mph, so anything will be better than that.

How about range? Do you guys clear 300 miles on a tank? I was really close to pulling the trigger on a TDI Jetta Wagon, just because 600 miles to a tank would be AWESOME.

I'd says so. My WRX has averaged 22.2 over 7K miles and I live in a city.

Since taking delivery in late February 2008, I am averaging 22-23 MPG over 21,000 miles.

That won't last long with the XT. ;)

My 05 XT (manual transmission) averages 20.4 around town even with a very heavy right foot, and mid twenties on the highway. When I make an effort to economize I get 23 around town and 27 or 28 on the highway.
