^ That looks like you can actually see the top of the rear bumper, no?

Indeed you can. The very center of the bumper is not so visible but with the way the camera captures you can see the rest of the bumper on either side curving out.

No Wagon mounts at all? I'm going to put one on mine as part of a CarPC project (no original Nav in mine), so I would be very interested in mounting types and places.

It will have to be an IR-type camera, and i would prefer colour and as wide angled as possible, but haven' settled on a specific model yet, not least because of the fact that I don't know exactly where to mount it for best results, ease of cabling etc.

My first thoughts was actually to have a hole-mounted one in the rear bumper and take the reverse signal from the caravan power-connector. But it seems that all the sedan mounts here is on the boot lid. Any particular reason for that type of mount except for the option to have the bumper in view (which is a pretty good reason in itself)?

Has anyone tried using the 08/9 Tribeca OEM camera? It looks pretty small and clean.

The picture quality isn't as good as I was hoping. This is the crimestopper one. Installing this in the middle was a pain and would have been impossible had I not known a guy that works in a body shop. It looked (felt) like there was a hole about the right size off to the edge of that lip, but I didn't notice that until after I'd started drilling. Then I realized once you get through the plastic piece, there's metal to drill through. Yeah, I know, I'm a little on the slow side...

Looks pretty good.

I wonder how difficult it would be to use the camera from an Acura RX330. I was behind one last night and could BARELY notice that it had a rear view camera.

This is exactly what I'm looking for! How is the video quality? Would you be willing to build one & ship it to me if I paid you?

Lets see if we can update this thread as I'm looking for ideas for a standalone rear camera setup for a 05-09 wagon.

The camera has a tag light built into it, so that functionality is retained. The light is wired into the tail lights, like the stock one was. The camera turns on in Reverse, and is pretty instant.

It's a generic ebay camera. The lines are mostly accurate, the red line is 18" projected on the ground So if you line the red up to the base of a wall or something behind you, it'll put the bumper about 18" away from the object.

I've had it installed with the OE nav in my 5MT wagon for more than a year now, without a single problem.

I'm running a licence plate frame backup camera with a rearview mirror display.

The placement of the cables could have been better.

The image quality of the camera and the display is quite high. I was pretty impressed with how clear it was. The sensitivity of the sensor at night also blew me away. Even when parking in a dim street with the streetlights covered by trees, the image is bright and defined. No need for any other lights in the back at all.

Both the mirror and the camera frame are from Boyo. I'm not sure about what kind of reputation the brand has. From my research, the general internet consensus is "not bad." They cost about half as much as Gentex products. I got a 4 year warranty for $10. If it breaks, it will be somebody else's problem.
