lloyd41christmas
I have recently had my oil changed and the garage recommended an air filter change, but they didn't have it in stock and said I should get it from an auto store, etc. What would be the best route to go (size, brand, etc.)?? Regal05LGT
If you want to go aftermarket grab a panel filter (K&N, Perrin, etc.)
seanlsb
Engine or cabin? Anyway, see above for good recommendations for your engine's intake filter. For cabin, see this thread: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96226. I know it's your first post, and we've all been there, but I recommend you use the search function to answer your questions as it's a virtual lock that somebody else has wondered the same thing in the past. Rimfaxe
I just switched to Blitz and really like it compared to stock OEM- http://www.fredbeansparts.com/servlet/the-969/Blitz-Subaru-Legacy-GT/Detail K&N, and Perrin are also good- some of them require oil which is a hassle IMO. fonts
Would recommend an AVO filter as they don't require oiling.
Richard B. Self sufficiency ftw. and still no reliable answers. when i asked if the 07 air filter was different than the 05 and 06 this forum was dead silent. obviously what i purchased for a stated 05-06 was a different size to my 07. in 100 answers only 15 will be close to being right. searching yields useless banter that usually have NOTHING to do with said subject. VB formatting is THE worst internet software out there. anyways...i buy oem. plan on modding? they will most likely state oem airbox. the oem filter is fine imo. filters a LOT of dirt/debree so you will need to clean it out and then replace it by the second cleaning. mine is gone by 8k miles. it is blackend by then. where? i get mine from smart service since they are 1 mile or 2 from me and carry oem. can go to a auto parts store and pick one up. had no issues with either of those. not many brands so not many choices. fram will be fine. Richard B.
The AVO filter fit just fine in my car unless we went to the exact same chain and received the same retarded part. is yours more square than rectangle? here is what mine looks like... https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/images/air-filter-subaru-oem-legac.jpg the one i received looked like this shape... http://www.alamomotorsports.com/blitz/blitz_lmstock.jpg
LGT Dave
The AVO filter I received for my car was more square like the Subaru filter you have pictured there. I made sure to set one on top of the other before putting the AVO in and they were both the same size and shape. It looks exactly like the one on Rallitek's page here: http://www.rallitek.com/avohiflpafi.html. If the one you got looked like that bottom pic then you definitely got the wrong part. That looks more like a pre-'08 WRX or STI filter like here: http://www.rallitek.com/avopaairfi.html.
mrmako
I got a K&N from Pep Boys, and it was a perfect fit in my 30EZ airbox. I would think it would be the same for the GT.

It's for the pre-'08 WRX and pre-'05 Legacy, I think. '05 and up Legacy (and '08 and up WRX, I think) is the more square looking one.

mrmako
The K&N is a square (more anyway) filter, and I really like the performance.
stanjk3
The rectangular filter looks like what's in my '06 Impreza 2.5i. I have Purolator PureOne air filter, sounds a little bit louder than stock. Feels like it has a little more power too, but that's probably just psychosomatic. AFAIK they still use paper, only cost a few more $$ than the standard OEM paper filters. Unfortunately, they don't make PureOne air filters for the 05+ Legacy. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
