Removing coilovers for the winter. Any special care required before storage?

As the title states, I'm taking off my coilovers for the winter to prevent them from becoming molested by salt and sand.

Should I do anything special to prevent them from drying out, corroding, etc.? Will it be a problem for them to be stored and usused for a few months?

Any help would be appreciated. :) Thanks.

You need to hang them vertically otherwise they will go bad.

Sorry, could not resist!

Just toss them into a box, that's all.

Wait, so I don't have to hang them upright? Now I'm really confused.

I thought it was a perfectly reasonable question when I posted it, but seeing all of your kind responses I guess it was a stupid one.

yes, hang them up with the top hats facing towards the clouds

i was learned to store them with the top hats facing up.

OTM.

no seriously, they need to be stored facing up. i would say if they were going to be shipped they need to be compressed, but they are not. so just face the top hats in the up position.

And put them where they'll be reasonably warm. No sense freezing them for days on end in an outside, unheated garage where they're not going to see any action, especially uncompressed.

BTW - use some anti-seize on your bolts when you put your strut back on so you don't kill yourself trying to get them off to reinstall the COs in the Spring.
