1986944t
I have a 95 legacy l with a junk 2.2 and auto tranny, found a 2008 legacy with a 2.5, the tranny and complete drivetrain for $500. Could someone tell me if it will work and what i will need out of the 2008 car.
Bdubs
You have a lot of work ahead of you, such as a new ECU, TCU, a complete wiring harness for the whole car, upgraded rear diff. and many other steps which will include trying to jam that engine into the bay. And if you want my .02...it isn't worth the time you are going to spend on it. Find another ej22 complete with a transmission and replace it, that way its a direct swap, and that will probably only cost you ~$500 as well. rao
Yes it will work, you need as much from the 08 as you can get. It is fun posting this every few days http://www.nasioc.com "Subaru conversions" forum Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
1986944t
I found the car in a local junkyard and it is totaled, i asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said $500 so. $100 deposit to hold it and figure out if it will work. The ECU and TCU are there along with the wiring harnesses. the tranny is an auto with that tiptronic shifting option, will the engine crossmember bolt up or will i have to fab something up. my only question is the ignition and fuseblock in the engine bay, will the hareness in my 95 work with this newer engine or am i going to have to tear all that stuff out too. Thinking about doing a front end conversion too.
rao
That price is a great deal. You might want to spend a little more time researching this; for example, you will never get the car to run unless you deal with the immobilizer system in the 08 ECU. If you wanted to do that research, a great place to start MIGHT BE http://WWW.NASIOC.COM "SUBARU CONVERSIONS" SUBFORUM Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
1986944t
oh boy do i even want to know what the immobilizer system is. could you explain. nate.
rao
I could, but YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF GOING TO http://WWW.NASIOC.COM IN THE "SUBARU CONVERSIONS" SECTION AND LEARNING ABOUT IT THERE HERE IS A DIRECT LINK BECAUSE SOMETIMES THE INTERNET CAN BE VERY CONFUSING http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=87 The swap is not hard, but it is not like Honda swap where all you need to know is where the purple V-TEC wire is Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT

1986944t
i read through and got a little understanding about it, counldn't i use a different ecu without an immobilizer system. nate
rao
You could use a 2004 STI ecu, but you need to make sure that the wiring you use will work with that ECU. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
icrackedcorn
would he have any issues if the whole dash/column/innards were swapped over? obedience to church and state is subjugation to the unjust authority of men
rao
Sure, just take the old dash and steering column out and bolt in the new ones. All Subaru parts form all years are fully interchangeable To solve the immobilizer problem you need the ecu and key (and the immobilizer system) to be the same and recognize each other.
