fullerslgt
Hey i am trying to help a buddy install some stereo stuff in his truck and i am trying to figure out how to install two amps with the one remote wire. i am trying not to burn up his head unit by drawing too much current by just Y'ing it off. Any suggestions?
foolds
Just daisy Chain em. You can run the power and ground to a distribution block also if you wish.
fullerslgt
but by daisy chaining them it wont overdraw current on the head unit?
rao
The remote turn on leads only carry a tiny amount of current because all they do is activate relays - that is the whole point of them Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
fullerslgt
they put out like 500mA right? and from what i hear the amps only need like 125mA to 200mA to turn on right? Or i think thats what i heard?
CzarDestructo
Every amp is different. Some take 150mA, some take over 300mA. You should be able to find this on the spec for the amp, then check the head unit spec to see if they list the remote output. I wouldn't worry too much about two amps, three I'd be concerned. dragonman586
If the headunit can't provide enough power then you will have to make the remote line go to an independent relay which will then draw power from some other higher capacity +12v line (you are going to want to put a fuse on this)
